I had been looking for a roatary hammer drill for a while, I looked at the "cheap one" from a certain large tool retailer that shows ships in their logo but I couldn't bring myself to ordering it. For whatever reason I decided to stick with the known "National Brand" eventhough they're all probably produced in the same facilities overseas. When I priced out various rotary hammer drills on Amazon this one seemed to be a great price compared to most of the other well known brands. I don't do much drilling into concrete but was in need of the hammering function of this rotary hammer to break up some concrete. I was surprised and very happy with how well it worked to break up concrete (also how light it was to hold). For a DIY user this is a great item you aren't spending a small fortune to get a rotary hammer. I also added the Dewalt chisel bits at the same time. The case this comes with is nice, there was room to store the SDS chisel bits as well as a set of SDS drill bits. I like to have things put away nicely in a case so when I go to use it I don't have to search all over the place looking for the bits that go with it.

I can't say if this would work for heavy duty daily type use but for a DIY'er it seems to work quite well. It's light, has a nice case, and with the SDS bits they are quick and easy to change.

I am a home user that was trying to use a "hammer drill" to drill 1" holes in concrete. That didn't work so well. It was severely(!) under powered and the bit kept slipping. I had no idea what a Rotary hammer was, but after some research, I picked this up and what a difference! Even though it is only rated for 7/8 inch holes max, it make quick work of the 1" ones. (if i was a contractor and had to make holes all day, I would get a stronger one but for this limited use, with plenty of time, it worked great). This is a great drill / hammer for making heavy duty holes. I used this bit DEWALT DW5479 1-Inch by 8-Inch by 10-Inch Rock Carbide(TM) 4 Cutter SDS+ Hammer Bit which was awesome. This drill uses the STS+ connector so that the bit does not slip. I also got the Bosch 1618571014 SDS-plus Shank 3 Jaw Chuck with Integral adapter so that I could use "regular" bits for wood and stuff in "drill mode" only. That worked well with this drill also. I love Dewalt tools and buy them because they are tough and last "forever". This looks to be no exception.

I am no tool expert so maybe most people already knows this, but this drill does not take the standard drill bit as it doesn't have the normal chuck. It has a quick release chuck that takes a drill bit with flat sides. Not a big deal I guess, just thought I would point it out so you know. I bought it with a chisel bit to break out some old thinset to re-seat a few loose tile and it made short work of the thinset. Seems to be well built and plenty powerful enough.

I bought this hammer not expecting so many functions. You got Jack hammer function, Normal drilling and Hammer drilling. In terms of power, it is remarkable. It is much more than i expected.

I made the mistake of buying an inexpensive hammer drill, which worked, but began smoking and leaking oil at the end of the first day. I purchased the D25023K several weeks ago, but I have only used it once so far. It drilled holes in my concrete walls without problems and seems to have plenty of power. You do need to have SDS+ drill bits or a chuck adaptor. I bought the SDS+ chuck adaptor by Bosch which adds to the total cost. The chuck adaptor worked well with the Dewalt D25023K. I have no complaints ....so far.

So far, so good. I've only used it a few times so far but it has drilled into concrete just as well as all the other roto hammers that I have used. The depth set thing is a little cheesy but I ended up really liking it. If you need to be accurate with your depth, you should still put tape on your bit but if you have a 1/2" tolerance, you can work fast with the depth set feature. I have always had a problem of going too far when I use tape (using a roto hammer) and it just shreds the tape off. I'd recommend this for all small rotary hammer jobs, You need to pay over $500 if you want to get into the heavy industrial ones.

First, as some have noted, you should be aware that this drill takes "SDS Plus" connection drill bits. These are available at your local home improvement store, but are not interchangeable with standard drill bits. I did not know this when I ordered it, but since I was using this for its hammer drill capabilities and did not have existing masonry bits, it was not an issue for me (just bought SDS Plus bits when I bought them). You can order an adapter to use standard drill bits in this drill, but the adapter is another 40 dollars or so. I purchased this one and it works perfectly: Bosch HA3JAW 1/2-Inch 3-Jaw Keyless Chuck with SDS-plus Shank

I've used this drill to drill holes in both concrete and brick. It is extremely effective. Once the hammering engages, it makes quick work of the task at hand. I have also used it in "hammer only" mode with a chisel bit to remove tile. It worked well; better than my pneumatic chisel.

I bought DeWalt because I have many of their tools and typically find them well built and thought out. This drill does not seem to be an exception to that. The only minor complaint I would have is that the depth guide is rather impractical. It is plastic all around so it is not very sturdy. And because of the way the depth guide is set it has a tendency to move if you bump it or push it too hard.

There are a couple of things worth noting while using as a hammer drill. You have to press a little to get the hammering to engage. I believe this is by design, but it can catch you by surprise if you are not ready for it. Be very careful on brick. It is easy to damage it because this drill is rather powerful for use on brick.

Overall, I think this is a good drill and would recommend it.
