For now, using a dusty saw in hot Florida....
Mark/cut only on the backside of HardiPlank for cleaner cut appearance on face of siding.
Cons: 'Cuts' by tearing, resulting in rough, raised cuts. Compared to circular/miter saw with quality carbide blade, trade-off is quality of finished cut versus dust-reduction. The D28605's resulting rougher, swelled edges may be easy enough to hide/caulk/seal next to trim-work, but at exposed-cut areas like step flashing they can be unsightly and prone to greater weather/water absorption. Shearing quality is especially apparent when making angle-cuts in HardiPlank . . . the more acute the angle, the more the 'point' of the siding will break/tear/crumble when using these shears. This tearing and breakage is significantly worse on HardiShingle, making this tool unsatisfactory in that application.
The D28605 shears easily handle average installations, and can be extremely useful to do-it-yourselfers. So dustfree that you can shear HardiPlank indoors . . . impossible with circular/miter saw cuts. But if precision is required, your circular/miter saw results in sharp, clean, quality cuts . . . with sharp angles, clean joints, and no raised/swelled edges. Best quality cuts result from marking/cutting only on backside of HardiPlank . . . side knives on back of board, center cutter on finished exterior face of siding. As for HardiShingle fiber-cement siding, these shears are best left in the toolbox.
Hopefully now with ability of consumers to communicate with each other, exposing these poor buisness practices through reviews will force corporations to correct the misleading practices that they have gotten away with for so long.
Was so happy to see it on Amazon at a great price!
I went ahead an bought them.....I had no problems.
I did make sure the three bolts were tight and kept the blades well oiled with WD40
Make sure you make a cut or two on a piece of scrap to get clean off any residual oil prior to use.
I found them easy to cut strait with too. The only thing I didn't like about using them
was that, When making long cuts, the waist coils up and blocks your view of the cut mark.

I was putting up cement siding on a barn. This tool made cutting the fiber boards quick and easy. This is the second tool I've used (the original Dewalt cutter was stolen). Read morePublished 7 days ago by Ron C

Works great for straight cuts but not angle cuts. Overall incredible compared to how much dust it would be with a saw.Published 8 months ago by Stefan Carlson
