I got this yesterday, charged up the battery and used it to vacuum out my car pretty thoroughly (large SUV) [note: I also bought the shop vac 1.25" attachment set]. It did a good job -- good suction... the battery was pretty much shot by the time I had done the front seat area and back seat area pretty thoroughly (I have 2 kids and we had been on a long road trip, so I spent a long time in the back seat cleaning).
Like the other reviewers said, the thing is loud. I don't think it's any louder than a corded shop vac, but it's in that ballpark. It didn't bother me while I was vacuuming the car, but I noticed my ears were ringing slightly after having it running in the enclosed space of the car with me for 20 minutes.
It's a nice trade-off.... I have a corded shop vac, but it's a hassle to run an extension cord out to the car -- I can just walk out and use this, so I have a feeling I'll do more vacuuming than I would with a cord. The suction of the corded shop vac is obviously better, but the convenience factor of this makes up for it for most uses.
I ordered a second off-brand battery so I can go a little longer in one shot.
DeWalt makes a larger battery powered version, but the size of this one seemed a little more bearable for storing for regular around the house use.
So far I'm happy with it and I'll be even happier that I can easily order another battery when necessary.
I started my cordless vacuum research a week ago, I needed cordless, small, powerful, price and resilient. DeWalt made it, so it's resilient and it's very small. I was afraid that this model would be weak, I turned this bad boy on and right away was impressed. Charged up the battery and tried again... wow. If this had a washable filter, I would recommend this as a home hand vac. In any case, you will want to buy an extra battery. I bought the cheap 1500mAh for 20$ and I don't hear or see any difference in starting power versus the DeWalt one that came with the product. I was comparing this model with the only other two machines that were good rated and price near each other. 20v version and a Dyson is what I compared with. The 20v had same ratings as it's 18v models but was 180$. The Dyson was nice and about 180 but I wanted something that was resilient to a drop. The Dyson looked like it would explode on the first drop. So the 18v models is the best 1/2 cordless vac. If you got the funds then go for the 20v model.'m If your cleaning up fine dust, might wanna buy extra filters or some kind of vacuum bag cloth to wrap around the filter so it's easier to knock the dust off.
Some boxes will not come with battery and charger. So don't buy cheaper then 130$.or you want get everything you need.
The DeWalt Cordless Vac is simply fantastic. The one I have in my workshop at home has performed flawlessly for over six years and I am still using the same battery. I just bought this one for the office because the aforementioned cordless vacuums were all junk.
I should have ponied up the extra cash years ago and bought this one instead of all the other disappointments.
I am most certainly NOT a fan of products Made in China but this product is actually very well made and very reliable. If it has one flaw it is quite noisy but it works so well that the noise is of little consequence.
If you take care of your tools properly this one will last you a lifetime.
