Pictures included in hopes it helps, other lasers used for comparisons.
Some pics first.
1st Pic. - Row of lasers, Johnson, Bosch and DeWalt Brand. Spent like 6.50 on batteries to light up my old ones for this review.
2nd Pic. Both of the new Dewalt's Green Lasers. Trying to emphasize in this picture that this laser can almost create a full 360 degree horizontal line
if positioned correctly just about as well as my other 360 degree lasers.
3rd Pic. Showing again, how far back behind, it can generate a line. The Johnson and Bosch lasers don't come close.
4th Pic. Showing how far the lines are away from the wall in reference to picture 3. Really like the coverage of this Laser and easily besting the rest.
Others pics are some of what I install. Curtain tracks, restroom partitions, FRP, hospital crash - hand and chair rail, operable walls and much more.
Use lasers daily in commercial construction, rarely have to pull out my levels any more. Big time saver, no chalk lines and marks left to clean and much more accurate. May add more pictures to review.
Thrilled with the brightness and distance over red in most cases for my work;
No more buying batteries.
Bosch and Johnson levels have had reliability issues and Bosch magnetic brackets are weak and the magnets come out.
Does not time out and turn off beams to save on batteries, hate that.
Pendulum lock automatically shuts off beams.
Bit smaller than my DeWalt 360 green 3 beam. Not much.
Strong, durable magnetic bracket. Best out of all the lasers I have had.
Warranty. Already took my Dewalt 360 green to the Dewalt factory store for a free replacement. Please see my other review on it for helpful warranty information and that experience.
Maybe that it cant be used off axis. My needs really don't need this feature anyway, so there is that.
The case, its really to large. May have to find a work around as I really do not have the room for both of these giant cases in my company truck. To many other tools, products to transport.
Really thrilled with this laser. Especially how far back the vertical line spill back. Great for my needs. The lack of in other lasers have hampered my use for them on certain tasks.
Any questions, please comment.
Will update if any issues.
Hope this review was helpful.
A few more shots using both my DeWalt Green lasers in unison in the field.
Task is to install frosted glass dry erase boards in 4 conference rooms. They float off the wall, posts must be perfectly positioned.
Picture shows using both lasers. They are stupid accurate together. I needed 31 inch centers at top and bottom. The verticals drew perfect 31 inch centers for the bottom row of spacers. Did not have a second tripod to create a horizon for the lower row, simply measure down.
Final pics are simply displaying posts installed and final product up. Project time about 30 minutes per room. No chalk lines to clean up like the old days. Never liked string lines for finish work, they sag. Have watched glass guys break tempered mirrors installed using this detail. These boards are mounted with 3/8 metal threaded studs and half inch holes in glass resting on them with no cushion between. Glad to have had no drama after this task, first time I have installed these.
Any updates moving forward will be if quality issues.
Thrilled with this laser and my other one.
Hope this was helpful.
For those beyond the once-in-while DIYer and up to small commercial work, I would recommend this DW088LR, and definitely over the cheaper DW088K. They are both red laser and pulse. But the biggest difference is the pendulum lock. When turned off, it locks in place so as to not bounce around. The DW088LR also comes with bracket, card, glasses, and is compatible with 12V Dewalt rechargeable battery cartridge (unfortunately only a few low-power tools use these, so your 18V or 24V cordless tool batteries won't interchange). The 4AA battery cartridge so far was sufficient for all day use, maybe because I turned it off for periods of cutting, figuring, etc.
The hard carrying case is perfect, also holds the DW0892 Laser Detector with bracket I purchased separately for exterior work (there's still room for a charger if I choose to later buy the 12V battery). I also bought a non-Dewalt grade rod for a better price, just make sure it has both markings in 12inches/ft and tenths/ft so as not to limit yourself. I didn't want to pay the green laser price, and so far using red closer to dusk worked visually outside. I played with it in bright sunlight where neither green or red would be seen, and with the laser detector it worked as designed.
In terms of laser projection, the angles above/to the side of point of origin are as good as you'll get without a rotating laser, but the unit rotates on the bracket anyway when needed. The pendulum, if shaken, quickly returns to plumb/level. The thickness of the red line is concise enough for close work and thick enough to see far away. I consider this a pro-grade tool with a DIYer price.
Can easily see a green line indoors 50' away. Tested at an install fast food retail space (all full length glass 3 of 4 walls), middle of bright sunny day, stainless steel surface (see pic). This unit needs ambient lighting. The laser is too bright in a dark room.
Lots of mounting options: wood screw, metal magnet, drop ceiling clamp. Still I highly recommend a laser level stand w/ bubble level. You'll be happy you did as 9 out of 10 times I default to the stand. I splurged and went for the DEWALT DW0881 1/4-Inch Laser Tripod
