But my review is for THESE bits. I give them five stars because they are very good bits for the money. I bought them for utility use when I do not want to use my good bits. I have been quite happy with them. Some people give less than five star reviews for these bits complaining that they are cheap Chinese junk. Well for crying out loud, it is a 21 bit set and only costs $23! What do these folks expect for $23?I I do not use these bits on ferrous metals. You can use them on metal, but they will soon need sharpening. I use them primarily on aluminum, wood and plastics.
If you want premium bits for drilling metal, try the American made Triumph cobalt steel 15 bit set that will set you back $160. Or, for wood try the Lee Valley Tools carbide tipped brad point 7 bit set that will set you back $135. Both of these bit sets are premium tools. Just remember the tool rule: You get what you pay for. Good tools pay for themselves. I can't understand reviewers that buy a $10 tool, then complain because it is of lower quality than a $50 version.
*** The small bits don't snap! No breaky! ***
I've been using the DW1163 and DW1354 sets for three years, and they've gotten much more use than any bits I've used in the past (new, big house, new, big projects). With every other set of bits I've ever owned (probably really cheap bits, honestly), I'd snap one of the smallest bits in the first one or two uses. Every time. With the DeWalts, they just go and go...pilots here, pilots there, drill, drill, drill, baby!
I had purchased Makita's in the past and felt like they were overpriced and batteries were much more difficult to find when they were discontinued versus Dewalt which is why I chose Dewalt for him.
He was so excited to get his new toy and put it to use. I must mention first that the case was one of the reasons for the purchase. I thought it would be handy to have a sturdy case to organize and store his bits in. There is a couple of extension bits and regular phillips and flathead bits of different sizes. There is also allen wrench type bits and *star* bits as I don't know what they are called.
While we really like the variety of the bits in this set, my husband is ready to throw the case down the street! It is a struggle to put the bits back in the slots, especially the extensions that you use most every time. They really need to create a better case. I am giving this 4 stars because the bits are awesome and that is the most important part. My husband gets so frustrated that he has given up on organization which leads to more frustration looking for the correct one.
I do recommend the set but make sure you have another organization system in place to save yourself a huge headache.
I bought this for one primary reason, the put in and remove 3" long 3/8" lag bolts that hold our iron staircase handrails in place at some townhouses we own. The top ballister is less than 6" from the wall, and the only way to get the 3" lag bolts in or out is with a ratchet set, or this angle driver. I bought a Milwaukee one, and it died after less than 4 bolts--and there are 6 per handrail. I bought another one at our local hardware store for $34, and it too could not handle the load of driving 3" lag bolts with either the impact driver or the cordless drill. This Dewalt driver has been great--I've installed over 20 lag bolts with it and it hasn't missed a beat. If you need one of these angle drivers, I highly recommend this Dewalt one.
Side note: if you plan to do a lot of hard steel (stainless) or titanium I would choose cobalt bits (material not brand).
