This heavy-duty stud joist drill is ideal for large framing applications. View larger.
A powerful 11 amp two-speed motor lets you match the right torque to the job.
At the heart of the DWD460K 1/2-Inch VSR Stud Joist Drill Kit's performance is a patented DEWALT-built motor that delivers increased power and performance in high-torque applications. The drill offers two variable speed ranges--0 to 330/0 to 1300 rpm. Paired with its powerful 11 amp motor, this translates to improved drilling and driving by allowing you to select the speed that's right for the application at hand.
The heavy-duty DWD460K features a mechanical clutch that delivers increased gear protection at low speeds. It also has the DEWALT trademarked Bind-Up Control stall-sensing technology, which provides increased control of reactionary torque. This protects both the drill's mechanisms and helps prevent common loss of drilling control often experienced in various plumbing and electrical rough-in applications.
Designed to Handle Tough Applications
As versatile as it is powerful, the DWD460K offers a 1-1/2-inch capacity when working with a spade bit or auger bit in wood. It can handle a capacity of 4-5/8 inches when used with a self-feed bit and a huge 6-inch capacity with a hole saw. It has a capacity of 1/2 inch when working in steel with a twist bit. as well as a 5-inch capacity in steel when working with a hole saw.
For durability and long tool life, the drill features a metal gear housing and 100 percent ball-bearing construction.
Built with Comfortable, Accurate Handling in Mind
Comfortable handling goes a long way toward ensuring accurate results, and the DWD460K is built to minimize fatigue. Its body weighs a manageable 11.75 pounds, and its adjustable front handle and two-position side handle provide maximum leverage and control.
The DWD460K 1/2-Inch VSR Stud and Joist Drill Kit with Clutch and Bind-Up Control comes with a DEWALT warranty package that includes a three-year limited warranty, a one-year free service contract, and a 90-day money-back guarantee.

When the Hole Hawg died we got by with a smaller Makita for the last few bags, and I immediately looked for a replacement while the Milwaukee was repaired. My contractor supply house said busy were liking the Dewalt DWD460 so I ordered one.
I hoep I got a lemon because this drill sucks bad. Even though it says it's 11 amps compared to the Milwaukee 7.5 amps, the DeWalt sounds like it's really struggling to mix the leveler. But the real problem is the gears keeps popping out, and the drill grinds like it's caught between high and low speed or something. My worker will be mixing away and all of a sudden the drill stops and grinds... He lets off the power and then the drill will be okay for a while. This IS NOT the 'Bind-up-Control' feature activating, because we can get that to work also, and that is an okay feature. No, this is the gears un-meshing and the drill grinding gears and coming to a stop.
I fiddled with the speed selector a couple times and the drill runs in high gear even when we switch it to low, then it will all of a sudden jump in low gear. When we switch it back it runs in high until it grinds again. This happens several times per minute while mixing.
I have ordered another drill and I'll see if that one works. I like the ergonomics of the drill for what we do, I just wonder if it will hold up to hours of mixing cement every day....
and whatever, this is a great choice. I also use it to mix thick batches of floor leveling and thinset. Does the job.

Good product but bit of a hassle to have to buy a step-down transformer to use it in the UKPublished 14 months ago by Mr Robin J Davies
Very powerful. Only downside is it is a bit on the heavy side. But makes quick work of drilling hole through joists.Published 20 months ago by B. Weaver
Does everything I needed it for, tenon cutting on rustic furniture and tree house building. Haven't used it enough to give a 5 yet.Published 21 months ago by Robert Walsack
