The DEWALT DWS780 12-inch double bevel sliding compound miter saw expertly walks the line between the rugged durability and fine precision that professionals need on the job site. From delicate woodworking to heavy-duty framing and deck building, the DWS780 provides the accuracy, capacity, and portability that cabinetmakers, trim carpenters, framers, installers, and contractors need.
The DWS780 12-inch double bevel sliding compound miter saw is not only durable enough to handle rugged materials, it also is equipped with state-of-the-art technology for fine and precision cutting (view larger).
It allows you to bevel from zero to 49 degrees with positive stops at 0 degrees, 22.5 degrees, 33.9 degrees, 45 degrees, and 49 degrees in both right and left directions (view larger).
The DWS780 miter saw features extremely solid construction and the new XPS cross-cut alignment system that features an improved ultra-bright LED light, which casts a laser-like shadow on the work surface and shows the user precisely where the blade will come in contact with the material. This unique alignment system requires no recalibration over time or after changing blades, which makes it more accurate and durable than traditional laser guides.
The DWS780 miter saw’s rugged guards; precision-machined castings, fences, and bevel system; and tough stainless steel miter detent plate are designed to withstand the constant rigors of the job site.
The saw features a powerful 15-amp motor that delivers 3,800 RPM. For convenience, the power cord is routed through the rail in the back, eliminating interference with the slide. Additionally, the saw offers an industry-leading combination of cut capacities, which includes 6-3/4-inch vertical capacity, 7-1/2-inch nested crown capacity, 13-7/8-inch horizontal capacity, and exclusive back fence design that cuts up to a 2x16 at a 90-degree angle and 2x12 at a 45-degree angle. To simplify and maximize vertical cutting capacity, the unit includes a rail lock latch for holding the head away from the fence.
The dual bevel system is easy to see and use in job site conditions thanks to its high-visibility scale and easy angle adjustment. Bevel from zero to 49 degrees with positive stops at 0 degrees, 22.5 degrees, 33.9 degrees, 45 degrees, and 49 degrees in both right and left directions. The saw also miters 60 degrees to the right and 50 degrees to the left and features an adjustable miter detent plate with 10 positive stops. A cam lock miter button allows the user to lock angles between detents. A miter detent override is also used to allow precise angle adjustment without falling into detents.

Top customer reviews
But the DWS780 is everything I could ask for. I also bought the rolling stand, DWX726, and the two products make a great pair.
This is a serious miter saw for serious work. I am a DYIer, so do not use the saw to its full potential. I bought it only after carefully reading all of the reviews I could find. So far, I have no negatives to report, and have used the saw and stand to complete a finished basement.
Perhaps my favorite feature is the XPS cross-cut alignment feature. It is as accurate as I need and has really made a difference in making sure corners fit properly.
Highly recommend. Would buy again.
She cuts through wood like butter. It is so smooth and accurate. It is so smooth it can make very fine sheets of paper thin wood.
The angles cut feature is very easy to use and you can get the cuts down to fractions of a degree.
I would highly recommend. Only negative is the price
Ok, and the only downside I've found is that I really don't like that it kicks lower into the wood when the trigger is released. Yes, I could set the depth stop so this wouldn't happen... but that's impractical when I'm working fast and making different depth cuts. I'm guessing (but could be wrong!) this does not happen with direct-drive saws, instead of belt driven. The solution is to just be patient and use the depth stop.
My saw needed some tweaking on the pre-set stops but that was an easy thing to do. After that it was ready to go. The fit and finish of everything was good. The slides are a little rough at first but seem to wear in over a little bit of time. That was a concern at first and other reviews mention it as well but it doesn't seem to be a problem now.
The sawdust bag works okay but has very limited capacity.
The shadow light also works very well. Mine is slightly off (maybe .005) but after using it for a while it's easy to compensate. It's a great feature. I haven't looked at the manual to see it that's adjustable but it's only off by something like the width of a sharp pencil line and once you've adjusted yourself to that you can split a pencil line.
The motor torque is surprisingly strong at start up. A soft start would have been better but, again, it's a very minor issue on a great saw.
Purists and professionals may not love this as much as me but it's fast, easy and accurate for my needs. My radial arm saw hasn't even been turned on since I got this 780.
I also bought the Dewalt stand. It works great too. The work support adjustments require some tweaking to get perfect when there's a need to change them but it's easy enough. If you have a jamb level it's REALLY easy. The extension arms work well on long material and stay pretty level even when extended way out. I've added this mini review because it's such a good companion piece with the saw.
If this was lost or stolen I'd order a new one immediately. It's just incredibly fast to work with; it's easy to change the setups and the cuts are very nice.
I did buy a better blade for trim work but the stock blade works fine for less delicate pieces.
The saw comes as mentioned and with all the extras, such as a saw dust catch bag and material holder clamp. Also has the XPS light. Sorry, no laser included, although you can buy them separately for about 80 - 100 bux.
Tested it out and it works great, but I haven't really put it through it's paces yet. I have a hard time foreseeing any issue, however. I'd recommend the saw and the stand. Very convenient set, especially when breaking down and setting up on site.
