Top customer reviews
So far I've just been cutting 2x4's at both a 90 (mostly) and 45 degree since I am doing some framing as part of a renovation. The stand works great. I like that it's easy enough to extend the tracks and lock them into place. I also like how the miter-stand can fold up nicely and hang from a hook on the wall in the garage.
I have no idea how long this model will be available, so while I was able to find accessories, I picked up the:
1) DEWALT DW7027 Wide Roller Material Support, and
2) DEWALT DW7028 Miter Saw Stand Extension Support
since I can see a future need for these.
I needed new sawhorses and thought about a Black & Decker workmate. But reviews showed it is now made in China and is total junk.
I went with a pair of these, mainly to get the extension arms. i don't really needed the miter saw mounts, but they seem solid if I use in the future.
These are very solid and I believe they could handle the 500 lbs. rated. All the main structure is heavy metal. The only plastic are the knobs on the locks. Even the shipping box was heavy duty and closed with large staples. How long has it been since you've seen that?
The end supports are somewhat adjustable up and down, front and back. But they're for support only, they won't clamp a piece by themselves. They are removable.
The legs fold up and there is a solid carry handle (plastic but hefty) This helps with storage and transport. About my only complaint is they are a bit on the heavy side for me. A reflection of the build quality.
Overall I'm very pleased. My friend saw them and immediately ordered a pair for himself.
Legs are very easy to unfold and latch and don't flop around once they're latched. Latch mechanisms are large and smooth-operating with no sharp edges, as are the extension arm latches. Very positive, solid feel.
Didn't skimp on the height - tall folks won't be griping, unless you're 7' 2".
End supports have inset nylon pads on them to keep them from marring up the aluminum track, if you slide the supports off of the extension arms and onto the track.
The saw supports were well thought out and it's easy to attach or remove the saw from the stand without frustration. Sliding the end supports off the arms and onto the track is frustrating until you play with them a bit and learn how to hold your mouth right. (Don't butt them up against the track and try to do it that way - move the arm back a little and jump the support over onto the track.)
Don't whine about the small tightening knobs on the inside section of the end supports that you have to reach in with the tips of your fingers to tighten - if they were bigger, they'd get broken or would be in the way.
The owner's manual is a joke. You'll need a microscope to view the illustrations. Luckily, you won't need the manual, unless you need to be advised not to jump off a ten-story building while using this stand, along with all the other safety warnings.
Only head scratcher might be the metal clip facing out on the front of the stand. You place the front part of one of the saw supports in the indentation of that clip to prevent lateral movement of the saw. Very secure once you've got the whole she-bang tacked down.
Non-Dewalt saws (allegedly) won't fit this stand unless first mounted to a piece of plywood. But you wouldn't even think about buying a non-Dewalt saw, would you? And of course you'll probably want to toss all your other non-Dewalt saws to save on plywood.
Revision I received (if there are any revisions other than the first release), looks to have been manufactured in mid-2015, if I'm interpreting the date code correctly.
Another great offering from Dewalt. Would be a nice, safe present for Marge to give Herb for Festivus.
I use it in the garage, it helps as you can drag it out of the way if you need to versus mounting it on a more permanent location.
The stand also folds up for easy storage and has a carrying handle to move it around while folded!!!
