I am forced to throw both in the garbage. I bought this online and I live in the West Indies. Sending this back to the USA for repair for me will be more expensive than buying a new one.
I believe Dewalt owes me a refund on both drills. My second choice will be a working replacement for the DWD 115. It was just what I wanted only to realize the one I got was no good. This has been a really bad experience with Dewalt. I have two brand new useless drills.
An absolutely first class drill that I wish I had bought long ago. Thanks DeWalt and Amazon for making this so easily afordable and possible.
Had a few glitches with the chuck acting as if there was something binding it up when opening up and closing down on bits. Could see nothing wrong but the problem persisted and I finally opened up the chuck about half way and put a few drops of Castrol synthetic motor oil into the opening around the edges. Held the end of the chuck in my fingers and slowly ran the drill back and forth with the chuck pointing upward forcing it to close and open its jaws a few times and the problem disappeared. Have used the drill several times since and the chuck is working very smoothly without a hint of the original binding. Just thought this might be useful to someone.
This thing packs almost 3/4HP, enough torque to make your hand turn without touching any material. Plenty of drilling power, probably way more than my household projects will ever need. When run up to full speed, it takes 2 seconds or so to wind down, so this might not be the best choice of tool for any delicate work you might have, or even something as simple as tightening a loose screw. My wife stripped a few cheap screws trying to tighten up a chair when the bit didn't grab properly, and it didn't shut off instantly like the usual battery operated drills.
Quite heavy but well-balanced thanks to the center grip. I definitely prefer this style over the pistol-grip style.
Has a little leveling bubble at the top/back, I can't imagine what use that could possibly be. Maybe if you need to drill a perfectly horizontal hole, it will be of help to you.
My one complaint on this one: there is no "off" switch. The toggle, right in front of the trigger, switches from forward to reverse quite easily, but there is no detent in the middle for a locked/off position. That seems an oversight for a very powerful and corded drill.
As far as the beans, this drill's got 'em. My most common use for an electric drill in my shop is to start recoil (pull) start engines when the recoil assembly is off of the engine for repair, or to start my 12hp Tecumseh (on an old Bachtold weed mower) or 7hp Gravely, both of which use a non-recoil rope for starting. Winding the rope is a PITA, so if I'm in the shop, I use a hex to 1/2" drive adapter (Irwin) and an in-line ratchet (Proto) on the flywheel pulley nut. This drill starts both of those engines with NO TROUBLE at all. There isn't a cordless drill in the world that has that kind of grunt. The other common use that I have is to drive a 1&1/2" auger bit. I poked some holes in an old chestnut beam that I had marked out in anticipation of getting this drill, and it did just fine except that the starting torque is a little tougher to modulate than I'd like (it seems to "roll on" too quickly).
Overall, a great drill for the price.

The second time I use it to drill a floor board it failed to work. The quality disappointed me
DeWalt is more expensive than others but the quality control should have been better. It is second drill from DeWalt that failed on me. The first one I got was cordless and the battery failed con charging within the first week of use.
I m very disappointed.
I think they are now using cheap parts that don't last long.
Cependant, une différence d'avec une perceuse à batterie, c'est qu'il n'y a pas de frein. Quand on relâche le gun, ça continue de tourner. Mais on finit par s'habituer assez vite.
order on 06-05-2013,,,received at home on 08-05-2013,,,thank's amazone.ca,,very good and promt services.
the drill has a chuck with no keys, completly all steel, better than the standard chuck which are made in plastic
and always are easy to break.
the only comments is the weight of the drill,,,which is almost 4 pounds, but for use on the floor is ok,,,
thank's again to amazone,,you are the pro.
