First, the box. I loved that shipping box: not ONE annoying staple, which, for me at least, means no cuts. The futon itself came wrapped in a cloth protection cover, with the legs neatly hidden in a zippered compartment underneath the bottom of the futon.
Second, the assembly. I have put together a lot of furniture over the years, for myself and family members. I normally rate the assembly process in one of three ways: 1) how many glasses of wine I drink during the assembly process, 2) how many breaks I take during the assembly process, and 3) how many hours elapse before I call my husband and tell him if he doesn't take over, I'm throwing it away.
So, using this scoring process: 1) 0, 2) 0 and 3) 0. In this case, a 0 score=perfection! The only thing that needs to be done is screwing on the legs, and that takes about 15-20 minutes. That's it!
As for the comfort, yes, it is firm. Again, it cost $159. I certainly didn't expect down filling, and this won't get daily use in my house, so the foam cushion works. I will probably buy some pillows for the back, but the bottom doesn't bother me. I think it will work as an extra bed in an emergency too. I personally prefer a firm mattress, and many others do too. If we have a guest who prefers something softer, we have a mattress topper that we can use, problem solved.
Overall, I'd say trust the reviews. If you need an affordable seating option, this is absolutely the best bet.

Now.. when I received the box it was huge - which I expected but it was SUPER GLUED (basically) shut. It was IMPOSSIBLE to open. Anyway I finally got it out of the box and I see this HUGE disgusting cockroach. Dead but still a roach. I’ve received packages before and I have seen bugs fine whatever, spiders but a whole ROACH. I saw a review before I purchased about bed bugs in someone’s brand new futon and I was like oh there’s no way that could happen. So I’m already upset but I decided ok it came from a factory in China, let it go. So then I open up the futon as it comes folded over and I notice a TEAR in the bottom right by the zipper where the legs/tools are stored - ok annoying I just paid $200 plus tax for something I expect to be BRAND NEW and not damaged. After miserably unboxing this futon and convincing myself it’s fine, decided whatever, it’s in the bottom. No one will see.
TWO DAYS LATER only two days - tell me why I see ANOTHER roach in the morning dead on its back (obviously disposed the other one). My apartment is BRAND NEW built in July 2018. And when I moved in I had no problems. No one else has a problem in this building and I assumed it was dead because my apartment was fumigated for insects when I moved in as a precautionary due to the heat. I’m fully convinced this tear in the futon is/was housing cockroaches and I’m 100% returning it. Unbelievably disappointed. I might have just had bad luck and I STRONGLY advise purchasing from this company with caution. As it was packaged prior to being delivered to amazon - I don’t blame amazon. And I certainly don’t blame this apartment building. BEWARE.

On the second day, the futon would not return to the seating position but stayed flat.
I called the manufacturer who told me that since I didn't have the paperwork that came with it, they could not open a claim and I was stuck with the defective futon. She was very rude and said although sold through Amazon they don't keep those records!
BUYER BEWARE!!
UPDATE 1/16: After less than a year, the sofa is already showing severe cracking and peeling on the seats, and the cushioning has caved in to where you can feel the brace beams when you sit down. The extended warranty does not cover this and when I reached out to DHP (as it was still under manufacturers warranty) they told me that OBVIOUSLY it's from using "strong chemicals" to clean the sofa. LOLWUT. I may be terrible at cleaning, but I know better than to use "strong chemicals" and I DEFINITELY appreciated the immediate "Your fault. Not ours." response from DHP. This was a huge disappointment, both in product and in service.

I ordered this for my office. It came with no instructions and no hardware to attach the legs. Two legs screw in-- no problem. The other two have holes for screws( ?) and there are mounting plates attached to the underside of the frame, but the holes were misaligned so that even if I used my own screws, they would go through into empty air instead of the wooden frame.
I ended up hammering in nails at an angle and it wobbles terribly.
The upholstery looks nice. There were no rips or puckers. However, it is extremely uncomfortable/unnaturally hard, and I didn't have very high expectations. Fortunately I am not sleeping on it.
Lacking instructions, so far I haven't found a way to keep the back in the upright position, other than prop it against the wall, which I have done.
I'm a bargain hunter, but in this case, it's worth a little extra money to buy a better product.

First, the box is heavy and large so don't expect to muscle it by yourself, but having said that I just flipped it end over end to get it into the house because well I'm stubborn.
The couch is covered in some sort of fabric bag to protect it, which was nice because this thing is white and my black dog doesn't need any help getting it all dirty. It lifted right off at which point I found the couch has a hinge in the middle allowing it to literally fold in half for storage or transport which I have to say is actually pretty cool. There's a zipper sealed compartment on the underside which contains all the legs, 2 hex keys and 2 sets of screws.
I uh didn't look at the instructions, but basically it's fairly obvious what goes where, the smaller of the screws was used for the center legs and the larger of the screws for the front legs. In all it took me about 10 minutes to put them all in and snug everything up. Flipping the couch over it felt a little flimsy and I was honestly worried that something was going to break but to my surprise, it was all just fine.
Raising and lowering the back appeared to be a major source of pain for other reviewers, and here's what I learned within about ... 30 seconds? If you pull the back panels all the way forward and then lean them back they will go flat. When you raise them however from flat there are 2 click positions, the first is a reclined position the second is a seated position. If you stop raising once you hear the click, it locks into place. Note that for each panel there's a click on the left and right side of the panel.
Comfort, it's a matter of taste and preference, for me I find the couch itself to be 'ok' in the comfort department for two reasons.
1. The back is quite low so you've got nowhere to rest your head unless you slide down into the couch and basically slouch awkwardly. I can definitely see my back flipping me the bird at some point doing this, but for the most part, it's not too bad.
2. Even at it's sharpest angle, you've got no lumbar support, but this can easily be corrected if you throw a cushion or something behind you.
So all in all, I would give this couch a 4 out of 5 because really at $250 what are more are you expecting? Oh the material, this is the faux leather model and don't worry there is no chance you would ever mistake this as being leather, it takes faux to a whole new level. But in an interesting diversity quota kind of way.
