Dion Neutra Biography/Introduction. 01-2-2013 rev 09-20-2016 Born in 1926, the year the Neutra practice was formed by his famed architect father, Richard Neutra, Dion Neutra, at the age of 11, began his apprenticeship at a drafting table in his father’s office. After having served in the US Navy in WWII, he studied for his junior year in Zurich and finally in 1950 graduated cum laude from USC with a BA in architecture. A few weeks later he passed the four-day State Board Architectural License Exam in one sitting, and became one of the youngest corporate members of the AIA at the age of 24. Since then the Neutra Practice has developed numbers of award-winning facilities: educational, medical, civic, recreational and residential. With the passing of Richard Neutra in 1970, Dion became firm president and has continued to preside over the practice, which, in 2016, celebrated its 90th year. He has traveled widely, lecturing in numerous locations in California, Nevada, Washington, DC, Pennsylvania, Spain, Switzerland, Japan, Puerto Rico, France, Canada and the South. He also provided leadership for the non-profit Neutra Institute for Design under whose agis he developed the NEUTRA INSTITUTE MUSEUM OF SILVER LAKE , which has hosted some 40 shows and events since its founding in August, 2014. This is housed in the front portion of the Neutra office Building (City Cultural Monument #676), at 2379 Glendale Blvd. Los Angeles, 90039, California Dion has also authored or co-authored a dozen books. This is his first draft of an autobiography.
