That was Kimberly's best friend flirting with Dale the bounty Hunter. That literally had me laughing out loud. This was a really good short story..
Kimberly gets in a fight with her mom and leaves to go party away her frustration. She gets drunk, then wakes up on her living room floor with no memory of how she got there. Kimberly gets taken to the hospital and the police tells her she ran over her mother. Being accused of the murder of her mom. Kimberly takes off. Then Dale is hired to bring her back. That's when their journey begins.
How could the police be so one note about the initial investigation? How could they not think about the step father being involved when they also found that he was being cut from the will? And the initial convo with Kimberly just didn’t wash for me. There were a lot of holes, but the characters were good and I enjoyed the suspense it provided for the entertainment factor.
This was a cute book; I liked the characters. The beginning was a little fragmented. It started off with a great hook, but became a little unbelievable. I had trouble with Kimberly's first conversation with the police. She was extremely coherent for someone who had been drugged and just found out her mother was dead.
The book picked up from there, but I found a lot of coincidences and scenarios that were a little unbelievable. Dale finds Kimberly right away and takes her into custody and all Amanda does is flirt with him? She doesn't seem the least bit concerned that her best friend is being taken away in cuffs by a strange man.
The other thing that really upset me is the total lack of investigation by the police. The LA police. I'm a criminal justice major and the mother-in-law of a police officer. There were so many holes in the investigation that called into question the competence of one of the largest police forces in the country. The situation might have been more plausible in a very small town with few officers and resources, but even then, someone would have done a little more investigating. This incompetence ran all the way to the District Attorney. Very unbelievable.
All in all, not a bad quick read. It was light and entertaining.
Kimberly is a rich girl who leaves home angry and then ends up in a lot of trouble. She lives with her mum. Witt the trouble Kimberly is facing she ends up with a Bounty Hunter after her. When Dale is hired to collect Kimberly he never expected things to get as complicated as they do but when he listens to her tell him what is going on her helps her and the lies and dangers that lie ahead of them to get evidence to clear her name.
This book keeps you guess who did it and how do they prove it to the police.
