I got these to use in making a small kitchenette unit for a camper-van. I use the magnet to hold both drawers and doors closed, to prevent them from opening when driving. I screwed them to the rear panel of the drawers and put a 3/4" strip of mild steel down the back wall of the cabinet for the magnets to cling to. I set them up to fully contact the steel. They hold quite well, well enough that you have to give a good pull to get the drawers open. Not strong enough to self-close the drawers (a lot of people have asked about that), but more than enough hold to keep the drawers tightly closed even on rough dirt roads.

The holes in the center of the magnets make them easy to install with phillips-head wood screws. Be very careful tightening the screws as the rare earth magnets are quite brittle and will shatter if you get the screws too tight! I bought a second set for another unit, and will be buying them again.

I thought these were like ones I have purchased before but they are far smaller. I looked at weight strength and not dimension. My mistake not the item description. I haven't used them for their intended purpose but I think I will swap these for the mega stronger ones I ordered before.

Warning: Watch out working with larger rare earth magnets. They are very powerful and if you aren't paying attention and they draw together mid air and your fingers are in the way, you are going to know it! If they become stacked with no separator disk between magnets, they double/triple down on magnetic strength. You may not be able to pry them apart easily. With effort, depending on size of magnet, you can slide the topmost one off and place it elsewhere. Again, if you set it too close to another one, they will slam together from a surprisingly wide gap. You, a pet, kid or item might be in for an ouchie or damage. The magnets can break by slamming them to a surface they can stick to or by dropping them. 😁

Very strong, but all one polarity

I use these magnets for a lot of things. I bought a cheap towel rack and modified it to attach to my refrigerator with these magnets. I use these magnets to attach steel power strips to my steel desks. Just don't drop them against each other, and keep them away from your hard drives.

For some applications, it is useful to have magnets with opposite polarity so that they can attract each other. The countersunk hole in the center of the magnets is great for screwing them to things, but it makes the polarity relevant. When you order these magnets, they're all going to screw onto something with either north facing out, or south. It would be nice to have 5 north and 5 south, so they could be paired.

I've purchased enough of these over the years that I have a handful of both polarities. However, it would be nice to be able to decide which kind I get. The product page says "Also available with the north pole on the countersunk face" but I could not find more information. There is a question "Can you buy a 10 pack of the opposite polarity?" which is unanswered by the seller. It looks like all similar products suffer from the same oversight. I wish I had done more research about this before starting my project that uses paired magnets. For example, it might have been better to use a cup magnet with a higher holding force, against a piece of steel, rather than trying to scrounge around for opposite-polarity pairs of these.

This is the second time that I have ordered these magnets. I love this product. It has just the right amount of strength to hold my garden hand tools up. Because they are several small magnets rather than one large bar magnet, I can space out my tools how ever I want. I have also used to make a kitchen knife rack. One of the 24 that I have purchased in total has cracked around the screw hole, but I don't care because the magnet still works.

Powerful magnets! While playing with them in my hands, one of the magnets snapped back onto the pile and shattered and cut my finger. Be very careful. Their adhesion is incredible and they work incredible as a door stop for some heavy closet doors that I built.

One thing to note, on one side of the magnets, they have a counter sink for the screws that are included. The issue, however, is that the magnets do not attract on the counter sink face when faced with another counter sink face. They repel in this way. For that reason, I needed to find some flat headed screws to attach one magnet in the reverse way. I then used some felt furniture adhesive pads with a hole punched in the middle to allow for the screw to dampen the doors so it's not a hard hit.

They worked great for my project!
