Bought the DJI Mavic Air 2, two weeks ago before I knew an update was coming so soon buttt.... I just ordered the Air 2S! The Air 2 has been fantastic but I did run into some range issues or losing connectivity around buildings and residential areas. Hoping the updated unit with 4 antennas vs 2 will fix that issue. Also looking forward to the updated hardware and 1 inch sensor! Will post back with comparison and if it was worth the extra buy.
*UPDATE*
So today I just got the beautifully upgraded 2S only two weeks after purchasing the Air 2. What are my first look and flight opinions... 100% worth the upgrade! Now don’t get me wrong the Air 2 is still an amazing drone and will work great for anyone but for me as I had the money and interest in learning how to edit video footage this upgrade was well worth it. Just look at the difference in the cameras in my pictures... Air2S - aluminum or metal material gimbal and has a beautiful 1” sensor vs Air2 - .5” plastic sensor and tbh the picture on the Air2S is just flat out better. However the Air 2 is still a fully capable drone and I will still use it as my everyday drone and for riskier shots.
As for the OcuSync 3.0 or better know as O3 I didn’t see a huge improvement on my first flight and I live in a suburb area with no tall buildings. That doesn’t mean that the range won’t be better for some but in my impression I saw no improvement here. I do have out of ground power lines all over where I live so this could be causing the issue. It generally lost signal when I was about .25 miles away and was flying low but would regain signal going above 65 feet. Not a huge deal breaker for me and I know others have said they saw a big improvement so maybe it’s the specific area where I live.
Lastly, MASTER SHOTS! This is one of the coolest things about the drone IMO. You select your target and the Air2S shoots a sequence of really cool dynamic shots and throws them into an edit for you. It literally does everything for you and it comes out really cool if you want to impress your friends or social media followers.
All in all 100% BUY THIS DRONE if it fits your budget. I don’t think it is too far off the price of the Air2 so if you have the extra cash I would definitely spend a little extra and go with the Air2S. In my opinion - Always go with the Fly More Combo - I got it on both drones.

Instead I am going to explain a silly problem with the DJI Fly App that may confuse many first time users.
As of May 15, 2021 the DJI Fly App on the android play store is not compatible with the Mavic Air 2S. You CANNOT get the latest version from the Google Play Store. You must go to DJI's website and look for it under "downloads." Your phone will warn you that the application may be harmful and you need to allow the download if you want to continue. If you want to fly with an Android phone or tablet, there is no way around this right now. Download and install the "DJI FLY APK" to your phone and it will look like any other app from the play store.
If you already have the DJI FLY app from a previous drone, you will have to uninstall it and download the new one from DJI's website. The QR code on the quick start guide included with the drone did not work for me, I had to manually search their website.
If you do not do the above... Your radio controller will not connect to the drone. You will see "AIRCRAFT NOT CONNECTED" in red after you press "GO FLY" from the app's home screen. NOTHING YOU DO WILL GET THE OLD APP TO CONNECT TO THE AIR 2S.
Once you have the new Fly App version, the drone will connect and then begin downloading several updates. It should work now.
On another note: the Air 2S, 3x battery, charger, spare props, controller, and ND filters will fit into the Lowepro Droneguard CS 150 case. It's snug, but I got it all to fit. This is my preferred case for small, foldable drones.

Now to say the lack of side sensors is a huge risk, DJI has software for the the drone to fly kinda diagonal so the top and front/back sensors can act like side sensors, it wont as good as just having side sensors but it still works very well, i have a total of 6 hours of flight time on this drone, which isn't much but my images and videos can fool you to thinking I'm semi advanced and that's thanks to DJI's Active Track, easy learning and the ability to color grade and shoot log video and Raw photos.
With this drone DJI has introduced 10-bit D-log in all resolutions options which allows us creatives to really go in and shape the footage how we like. with the option to shoot up to 5.4k footage you can get astounding footage. along side have a new 1 inch 20mpx cmos sensor you can capture amazing pictures.
There's tons of new features like mastershots, hyper lapse, but I haven't messed with those to much to form an option on them yet.

I bought the DJI air 2S fly more package to basically check the back fields and fences and it’s all it says it is. Longer flight times, great camera, and easy to fly.
I’m still learning the ins and outs of the full use, and I haven’t used the auto tracking yet. I’ve had it reach out to 2kms while obstruction free in line of sight, but there’s a slight pixelated lag with the camera. It’s depending on the skies, Clear skies and it has almost zero lag but seems to have more on cloudy overcast days.
But to check the back fields and fences I get much less distance and more lag where the image freezes then jumps to the next view a bunch of frames forward due to interference from trees. I’ve had the drone lose its connection a few times and have scrambled to move closer to regain connection to cancel the return to home, but knock on wood......so far so good! It’s expensive but I would recommend this, if you have the money.
So that’s the only reason it never hit 5 stars, I don’t see this being able to reach to extreme distances they advertised. Unless I’m doing something wrong I would say that 2kms is the max operating distance using line of sight and easily a half km less if you need to fly without line of sight or below the tree line.
One last note, it handles the wind very well for its size, it tells you if the wind is to much. I simply lowered the altitude and it was fine.

Here is the horror story about two transactions including this drone .
First , I bought a drone by a special offer on Amazon monthly payments. It was very attractive to pay only 104$ by month without more taxes on a drone so I bought it as I was too short to pay in one shot.
I received the drone in january but it had to be stored until the end of the winter. I checked pretty quick inside home as everything seemed to work off flight at first view. I was just surprised at the start that there was no motors protectors on the drone and I've heard DJI gives that with their new drones.
After a quick inspection , I let it in the box until some days ago. First flight , I already noticed strange blurry spots on the videos but as I was new to 1 inch sensor drones and this brand , I tried to figure what was going on with this drone and in a carefull way like a collector so I didn't hit it anywhere or scratched , dropped etc. I've tried to troubleshoot , testing in different conditions , refreshing the firmware , doing all that I could do to find the source of that. As I filmed in 10 bits , first I thought it may be an effect I don't know caused by that but no . I've been anxieux for 2-3 weeks testing everything some days when conditions were good. Same bad results on a lot of scenes with a clear feeling that the sensor was dirty inside. The lenses were cleaned like a videograph does , with high precision , still these horrible blurry zones appearing in a lot of scenes in places where it is not normal at all according to the focus I was trying. In the inside , it was less notceable as the focus range was short so I didn't see it in my off flight checking. Just ensured the camera was showing an image and that it seemed good on my cellphone.... but the blurry thing is sometimes not seen on a low resolution phone with small display.
It was an horror story to test all that , to be sure I don't resend to DJI because of a human misundurstanding. It took around 7 flights to determine there is a hardware problem.
Yesterday , after trying many troubleshoot on around 7 flights ... I invited a pro of electronics to look at the drone maybe with a pro light to reveal what my 40 watts lights inside may have missed on the drone. We found nothing on the lens properly said but we've found 2 traces suggesting that the camera was hit 2 times on it's lens gray frame. Two clear bump traces. After that , even worst , we've inspected all the plastic around the drone with the electronic light. Inside the memory card socket , there were big scratches I first identified as a logo because I have a poor proximity view. This is like a total idiot had forced his memory card in and failed ... scratching all around. It's totally revolting. It's clearly a used model Amazon sold me as new at the price of a new in a montly payments promotion. That's not all. We've checked the controler with the same light and it has 2 mega long scratches on it , almost the same color than the controler but very noticeable like someone scratched his controler ... like with a key or something . At the minute we put light in the good angle we see it and it's not dirt or oil that leaked ... it's scratched.
It was clearly a used drone + it was defect . To add to the frustration , while winter passed , I prepared all my stuff and bought 2 more batteries etc so I'm stucked with this , paying monthly for a drone that was a fraudulous transaction or an error but it's the second error I have with the same mega promotion Amazon had on DJI products. 2 defects items on 2 and clear traces of a used one on the second. 3 coincidences ?
That's not all. As I wasn't insultated enough , DJI awnsered me today they would send me a refurbished drone te replace mine. I almost fell off my chair . The client has been frauded and the constructor offers to replace an item bought as new to the price of a new ... with a used one . Referbished is still considered as used by our laws. So I don't know which to blame . DJI that offers me an insultating solution to a real problem or Amazon that sold me 2 defects items used as new in a promotion . It looks a lot like DJI or Amazon tries to get rid of defect models by replacing them with refurbished instead of new. Both may make money frauding clients like that. I don't know which one is faulty but it's not normal.
