The more fly package is well worth the extra money as you get a charger capable of charging 4 batteries (in sequence not all at once, to ensure you have a fully charged battery ready to go) ($50 value), 2 extra batteries ($80 each value), a 32GB SD card (not suitable for 4K video, however), and 8 extra propellers ($36 value).
I have tried recording video to the supplied SD card and it will work however the video will get grainy and distorted at times, other than that it does ok. If you really want the 4K footage at 30 FPS you are going to need to update the SD card.
You will likely need to update the firmware for all of your major components, the drone, controller, and the charging port. You can do this via the DJI GO 4 app when connected to the controller, or using a MAC or PC with the DJI Assistant 2 which can be downloaded from the DJI website. The process is simple and easy to follow either way and will take you about 15 minutes to complete.
The drone is extremely stable in the air and holds it's position very well. This allowed me to take some great shots in high resolution. The 4K video this little drone captures is great with awesome colors and depth. Flying it is super easy, it comes set-up with very low sensitivity and gain settings so once you have a handle on maneuvering it around you will likely want to modify these settings to give you more responsive control.
This combo has anything needed for a drone and comes with cheaper price. It comes with 3 batteries which is one of the thing I like. Saves time and money instead of recharging one or two batteries. More propellers helps with replacing any unexpected damages.
The sellers is nice too.
The criticisms: it flys like a Phantom 3 standard, as in wobbly. Definitely not as steady as Mavic Pro and Phantom 4 Pro. It’s loud like a P3S as well.
Now I have a Mavic Pro and P4P and have sold both for the Mavic Air because of form factor as I travel often and want drone footage of where we’ve been.
There’s a trade off between portability and camera quality. I simply cannot travel with a P4P and Mavic Pro’s gimbal is not as “good” as Mavic Air.
It’s a nice compromise. I’d give it 5/5 if flies similar to Mavic Pro.
I have crashed it 2 times now and I have not even had to replace a single propeller.
One incident was slamming into the side of my truck, this does not have side sensors, only front, back, and bottom.
Then the return to home feature kicked in and I was in a building... Probably fell from 10 feet top side down.
I have flown it for a good number of hours now, I have never had it drop out of the sky.
The Mavic Air is another great drone by DJI.
