Built from the ground up for aerial filmmaking and photography, the Phantom 3 4K from DJI features an integrated 12MP camera attached to a 3-axis gimbal. Apart from 12MP JPEG or RAW photos, the camera can record cinema-spec DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) at 24 fps and UDH 4K (3840 x 2160) at 30 fps. With the included flight battery, the quad copter can fly for up to 25 minutes, depending on conditions. A 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi link with range extender allows you to use the venerable DJI Go app for live HD monitoring and camera control. Additionally, you can access intelligent flight control features tailored to needs of the filmmaker, including Follow Me, Course Lock, Home Lock, and waypoint navigation. The Wi-Fi extender as well as the included handheld controller (transmitter) feature a line-of-sight range of up to 3937'.

I had really been convinced I was going to get the Advanced over the Standard. It had the upgraded sensor, had the better controller, and used Light Bridge. After more research, I found that the Phantom 4K was a combination of the Standard and the Professional. It has the 4K camera that I really wanted, but then it comes with the upgraded remote for additional camera features and controls. The way it ends up being cheaper is that it uses WiFi like the Standard, vs Light Bridge like the Advanced and Professional. Since distance wasn't important to me (1 mile is plenty fine, I don't need to have it out 3 miles), the 4K was the logical choice for my needs.
Given the statement above, I have found the weakness of WiFi already. I easily loose signal in high WiFi areas or if I lose line of sight. The Light Bridge technology would take care of these issues. However, this has only happened a couple of times and in by no means has it been a deal breaker for me.
As far as flight goes, I've been flying manual, cheaper quads for about two years. They are no doubt challenging and have a major learning curve. I was very nervous about flying the Phantom 3 for the first time. I read the manual, watched multiple training videos, etc. Basically, I didn't want to crash my new $600 piece of equipment. On my very first flight, I couldn't believe how ridiculously easy it is to fly. It takes off by itself, will hover when you let go of the controls, and will land itself (but you probably knew all of that from the research you've been doing). My 7 year old daughter can fly this, it's really that easy.
After playing around with different settings in the app, I finally got the camera and video modes where I want. The picture quality is amazing. I've purchased additional filters for the camera to enhance the image some and am so pleased with the quality.
Overall, I absolutely love this quad and highly recommend it to anyone. My dad ended up getting one, having no flying experience and is also in love. I really can't say enough good things about it.
After the most recent firmware update the drone gave me a Barometer sensor error. At first it told me to restart, I did. I then emailed a dji rep who told me to calibrate the imu and gimbel but this did not work either. He told me to send it back and this was with a phone rep, an instant chat rep as well as the seller on this website telling me to do so after I described the problem.
BEWARE of the return policy they will not accept returns on opened drones, if they are damaged they will be sent to the manufacturer at the owners expense. If the problem is not covered with warranty then you will have to pay for it. If you choose not to you will have to pay a $60+ fee for their time And the return shipping cost. (update 3/30) the seller is actually with dji I found out, so either way it would have to have been sent to dji. But I cannot fault them for this as it was stated in their return policy...please read this before you buy.
I sent it in as of 3/28/2017, to my surprise it arrived at their facility 3/29/2017 with 5day ground shipping as a default return label at their expense (perhaps because I live in Vegas and the repair shop is in Carson, CA) .
I really only had it 2 weeks long. I did not abuse or neglect this thing at all, and I am now stuck with no drone,on its way back for repair. I just hope it comes back in time for my flight to Thailand in mid May, and hopefully the cost will be covered under warranty. I will update as I go. I would have given 1 star, but because the drone was such a blast, I will not shame this beautiful piece of technology with a one star, I will give a two star.
***Update 4/7 it is covered under warranty, total would have been $178 for flight controller motherboard and service charge at $65/hr x2

This set back cost me a total of 20 days including weekends. I happily received by drone with signature delivery and it has since worked like a charm the last couple of weeks.
Now after all is said and done, I've changed my review to 3/5 because of the inconvenience. Other companies would go ahead and send a replacement unit (i.e. through amazon prime). Seriously, if I sent out a unit to a customer, and the customer found out it was faulty, why should I inconvenience them when its my fault? I would rather have the customer return it, and a new product shipped out immediately through prime instead of leaving them without the product they paid for, for 20 more days. But to be fair, the customer service experience I had was not bad as others have felt. It was largely just the inconvenience of it all.
