The Phantom 2 Quad copter from DJI brings all the features you love from the original Phantom but with 2X longer flight times and native support for the Zen muse H4-3D Gimbal, which is included in this special bundle. With self-tightening propellers and a much larger intelligent battery that lasts 20-25 minutes on a single charge, the Phantom 2 is a significant upgrade from the original Phantom 1. The Phantom 2 retains the Phantom's fast setup and easy control layout so that you'll be making professional-quality aerial videos in just minutes. The addition of the 3-axis gimbal (included in this bundle) provides stability for all three dimensions of flight: yaw, pitch and roll, yielding super-smooth video from your GoPro. NOTE 1: This does not include a GoPro. Only the Hero4 Black Edition works with this gimbal, so to use the Phantom 2 with a Hero3 or Hero3+, please choose the H3-3D gimbal bundle, also from DJI. NOTE 2: This is V2.0 of the Phantom 2 and includes upgraded motors, propellers, and a new remote control transmitter that has a rechargeable battery and gimbal tilt control built in. NOTE 3: This bundle contains a Phantom 2 and H4-3D gimbal but requires installation. You will need to install the gimbal, upgrade the firmware and calibrate the gimbal using the DJI downloadable software.

IMPORTANT: Go ahead and buy at least an extra battery when you order the drone. Trust me on this.
Took the drone outside and calibrated the compass with help of a YouTube video. This took a few tries but eventually calibrated. Next, turn on the controller and then the flight battery on the drone. Let the drone sit there until it acquires a GPS signal, which will be indicated by the LED's underneath the drone blinking green. I then read the mini instruction sheet on the controller and fired up the drone. At first I would concentrate on taking off and landing, to get the hang of it. Take off, climb to 10 feet and then bring her down. Do this 25 times or until it becomes boring. At this point, the desire is to roar off the ground, zoom up to 300 ft and zip around like a fighter ace. Do not do this. Once take offs and landings are routine, head to a big field and practice basic flying, nice and easy. IMPORTANT: If you ever become disoriented or are unsure of what to do, let go of both control sticks and just let the drone hover while you figure things out. Over control is probably the easiest way to crash this thing.
Of course, you have been recording all this with the attached GoPro and as a result have figured out that you must manually start and stop the camera before and after each flight. IMPORTANT: Turn on the flight battery after turning on the GoPro and turn off the flight battery before turning off the GoPro to avoid straining the gimbal motors. Also, don't attempt the workaround of using the GoPro remote to control the camera as it transmits on the same frequency as the Phantom and will cause catastrophic interference.
OK, so have fun and get a case. Backpack style is best unless you are planning on heavy airline travel. IMPORTANT: Get a soft case that accommodates the Phantom 2 with propellers on. Microraptor Pro Cases makes a great one. Not much fun spinning propellers on and off. And trust me on the extra batteries......
Recent versions of the firmware do not allow you to roll back, so I was stuck with it. I contacted their support (after two weeks of trying to get through), and after several weeks of waiting, they said they would charge me $143 to repair it, even though THEY are the ones who released buggy software and THEY are the ones that wouldn't let me roll it back! What kind of company does that?!? Well, maybe that's how Chinese companies tend to run things (DJI is one), but most U.S. based companies have learned that customer support is crucial to long term customer loyalty, and it's hard to imagine being treated that way by most big brands in the U.S. today.
