Calificado en Estados Unidos el 12 de junio de 2020Works well - difficult to set the trap. You will need strength, logic and bravery.
This trap is great, scary and well thought out. To set the trap there will be two stages that the trigger will be at.
1. The first photo shows the catch loosely held in place by the body of the trap
2. The second photo shows the catch tightened after a 360 degree turn back to the same spot.
this trap is very difficult to set and its scary, I use a length of pipe in the hole for the chain to help me hold it from twisting. My grip is not very strong.
The trigger mechanism has a rod and a v shaped lever - the lever is very easy to wiggle to the end of the of the rod and when the trap is set, it is held shut.
tips, wash the trap, put on gloves, get a tool to help twist it and add a cord or chain or spike the trap in place.

Calificado en Estados Unidos el 30 de marzo de 2016The DK-1 is a great snare for gophers. I do not consider it a trap because to me a trap is something you use to capture the animal. This trap is a killer and a very good one. I had so many gophers in my garden and orchard area that I thought I had to concede a portion of both to their fat little bellies. I had one gopher eat the root system of a 6 year old apricot tree right down to the root ball. I couldn't poison the little devils, not around crops for sure. Flooding just wasted water. Once I learned to fine tune the staging of the trigger on the DK-1, it has not failed. When I first got my traps, I always knew if I was in the right place because the gopher would back fill what I removed to get the trap in the hole. When the trap failed to snap shut it was because I failed to properly stage the V shaped trigger. You have to set a hair trigger on the rod or it will not snare the animal when it pushed dirt back into the hole you cleared out. Once you stage the trigger properly it's as reliable as advertised. I found that if you use the coiled spring around the shaft of the trap to stage the trigger, it works best when I lean the V trigger back toward the jaws of the trap slightly to get that hair trigger I am looking for. Once you master that, you will get rid of your gophers and fast. I bought a six pack of these traps and within two weeks, I have eliminated the gophers in my garden and expect in the next week to have them out of my apricot trees as well. One word of caution about this rig, if you do not learn how to handle them, you could get hurt yourself. I avoided trouble and the potential for injury by going to "YouTube" that has a few videos on how to set these and how to recognize and prep the gopher holes for the DK-1. You owe it to yourself to watch them. You will get your gophers and save your hands.

Calificado en Estados Unidos el 3 de agosto de 2016These traps work. I caught 7 gophers in a few days.
Before you use these you should know a few things:
1. You need to clear your gopher hole before setting this trap. Gophers just push dirt up and out of these holes or use them to abandon an area. They will not investigate unless you've cleared the dirt out of the tunnel entrance. I wore gloves and using a small trowel and/or my hand. I used the trowel to lightly probe for where the loose dirt was then scoop it out, repeat until it's clear. Sometimes you can't seem to clear it: Don't waste time with a trap in these situations! Just fill it in and move on.
2. If the hole is already open/clear, it's most likely abandoned so don't waste a trap here either. Fill it in and flag it. If it's disturbed next time you check, then go ahead and trap it.
3. You need tent stakes or the equivalent and chain or strong string. Tie the trap to the string and then stake it down, then arm the trap. For holes close to my fence line, I anchored the traps to the fence. Anchoring is essential as I didn't catch a single gopher that was killed by the trap. They all retreated into their holes once they were caught. You use the anchor to pull them out. The anchor shouldn't have more than 18 in of slack, as you don't want a trapped gopher getting around a corner and making it difficult to remove without losing it.
4. Set the traps just inside the hole, you may have to clear some room. Make sure to rotate the trap so you know it has room to activate, this would be less important in soft soil, but it's very hard where I live so this is necessary. When you arm the trap, set it as a hair trigger. I oriented the trigger towards the claws and worked the underside of the trigger back (towards the anchor point) over the springs until it was just past he length of the trigger bar. I then pushed the top of the trigger until it was just at the end of the trigger bar. Needless to say, have your hands no where near the claws in this process or you could have a very bad day. There are YouTube videos that demonstrate this technique.
5. Once you've caught a gopher, you can tell because the anchor is taut. Slowly! Slowly pull them out. I had one gopher that pulled himself loose because I yanked too hard. He creepily backed away into the dark haha. Big gopher that guy. At this point you have to be ready and willing to perform the coup de grace. As I said, they were all living. I eventually resorted to using a co2 pellet pistol. I gently pulled the gopher out and as soon as I could see it, I shot it a couple of times to at least stun it. I did this because they some times escaped in this process. Then I used a hammer...
6. You have to clean these after a kill! Use soap and water and scrub them clean. I recognized that the traps stopped catching gophers after I killed the first few. They could smell the blood and whatnot and they ended up just moving farther back into the hole and collapsing the tunnel. Once I cleaned these, they started working again.
7. Finally, these rust terribly. Even without rain. Damp soil will do it, so I had to scrub these with steel wool and then oil them to get them back in shape. Don't leave these out for more than a couple of days or they could be ruined. That's my biggest beef.
For the money, these are the best, non-poison method of eradicating gopher pests. We have horses and these holes can cause terrible damage.
I would also recommend using lawn flags. I have a large property and its difficult to discern fresh mounds from old ones unless you are consistently flagging. You only want to trap fresh mounds.
I caught every gopher on our property save one with these traps, had to poison that guy. He was just too smart for these traps. The gopher da vinci or something...

Calificado en Estados Unidos el 11 de febrero de 2024I normally poison these suckers, but I like catching them for the fun aspect. Got these in January and set for the first time yesterday. Kinda confusing to set…the first time. Simple after you figure it out. Stake it down and they can’t push them out of the way. Great design!

Calificado en Estados Unidos el 5 de enero de 2025The traps are designed to be buried in a gopher tunnel however it first has to be set. Setting the trap feels scary to me. It has very sharp wire hooks that grab and kill a gopher who enters the trap. For those who are brave enough to set and use this trap, it seems to work. The company that makes this trap has a YouTube video on how to set the trap, but the video is from a viewer's perspective when it should have been from the perspective of the user. Maybe a better video and tough gloves would help me set the traps?
