This actually is a small, 17 key accordion not a toy. It has a sound similar to a Hohner pocket harmonica. I've played it for several days now and enjoy it's easy of play. You can play a wide range of songs that sound fairly descent. This instrument teaches the basics of playing an accordion which are: practicing fingering the keyboard, what is the right amount to squeeze or pull, keeping time and playing simple bass notes. If you're a brand new accordion player, this is definitely the right instrument to get.
The instructions that came with it where rather excellent. The instructions are a two sided with one side showing a diagram of the accordion and a key diagram. The other side of the instructions have simple songs to start with. (I'm personally confused why so many reviewers have complained about this. It's an instrument. You press the keys or buttons while either squeezing or pulling the bellows to play a note. Unsure why that's difficult to understand...)
PROS: It's 50$ and is rather easy to carry with since it's about 10" x 10" x 5". This makes it rather convenient to take with on trips where you wouldn't want to loose an expensive instrument. If you get the green perloid, it's a solid hard plastic like material that actually looks shiny like an opal. Great for folk songs and kids birthday parties.
CONS: The straps are a bit thin and I'm not sure how well they would hold up with a young child. The keys are a bit narrow but this is an instrument for children. I have small hands and find the keyboard easily playable. If you have large hands or fingers, this might be too small of an instrument to play.
