Product Description
Product Description
Detailing Dante's early years and set against a contemporary backdrop, DmC Devil May Cry will retain the stylish action, fluid combat and self-assured protagonist that have defined the iconic series but inject a more brutal and visceral edge. The Dante of DmC is a young man who has no respect for authority or society in general. Dante knows that he is not human, but also that he is not like the demons that have tormented him throughout his life. Caught between worlds, he feels like an outcast. He is now discovering and coming to terms with what it means to be the child of a demon and an angel. This split personality has a real impact on gameplay with Dante being able to call upon angel and demon abilities at will, transforming his Rebellion sword on the fly to dramatically affect both combat and movement. For DmC Capcom has teamed up with UK development studio, Ninja Theory, renown for delivering action titles with compelling characters and narrative coupled with high production values. The combination of Ninja Theory's expertise and Capcom's unrivalled heritage in producing combat focused action titles will ensure that this latest addition to the multi-million selling series will remain true to the Devil May Cry DNA so cherished by the fans, while bringing a new level of cinematic quality to the title.

All that said-I think this is my favorite DMC game yet. Now, if you told me that at the Dante re-design unveil, I'd have said you were crazy, but I think there are a lot of things this game does better than its predecessors. That being said, there are a few things I'd like to have seen done better but still (and partially for beating all my expectations) I'm giving 5 stars. For those interested, a more detailed breakdown is below.
The Pros:
Plot-DMC has a much more detailed and in-depth plot than any other game in the series. The game goes into much more detail on the villain (who have generally have been bad mostly because we've been told thy're bad. DMC opens with Mundus blackmailing the President) and Vergil (who had minimal character development prior to this) than really any other game in the series.
Level Verity-In previous DMC games, you're generally stuck walking back and forth from one place to another in the same general area and things usually all look the same. While this game takes place in one city, the levels look different in a way I haven't seen before.
Currency-Previous titles in the series have used Red Orbs as currency both for abilities and items, thus I've been forced to choose between boosting my health or boosting my attack. DMC introduces a new type of currency (White Orbs) which are used to purchase abilities while Red Orbs are still present but only used to purchase items.
Soundtrack-Previous DMC games have generally been filled with angry guitar wailing which made me mute my TV. This is totally a personal preference, but I like the DMC soundtrack much better.
Raptor News-Another matter of personal preference, but I'd give the game 5 stars for letting me kill Bill O'Reilly/Glen Beck/Sean Hannity/Brian Ducy/everyone else on Fox News. Best thing I have ever seen in a video game.
The Cons:
Dante Redesign-while the developers did tone down the emo from their original design, Dante's just really not Dante to me without the white, shaggy hair. After beating the game you do unlock other skins for Dante which change up the design and can purchase a set as a DLC (which includes Dante's DMC3 design) I miss my classic Dante by default. The game does use the more classic look for Dante's Devil Trigger.
No Second Character-DMCs 1-3 all had characters that could be unlocked and played upon beating the game (sometimes a certain difficulty was required). DMC4 didn't have an unlockable character, but did introduce Nero who had a distinct play stile. The "Vergil's Downfall" DLC does let you play as Vergil, but only in a new story, not the original game. I think that having an unlockable character would add more to replayability.
Bloody Palace is DLC-This is really pretty petty, but you have to download Bloody Palace separately from the game. Kind of annoying, but it's free (at least on PSN).
I will say also, that this game gives the DMC franchise and overall more British feel as well, with the costume styles and level designs. Since the cities look more like what you'd find in gritty, worn-out, urban Britain than in America. That isn't to say that this is a failing in any way, however. The overall look and feel of the game comes across as more dark and gritty than in previous games, which I actually appreciate. It takes the DMC games from a straight fantasy genre and moves it firmly into the Urban-fantasy realm, which I believe it fits into much better, including the British flare. lol.
Secondary note: This game also has the option of buying extra levels for Vergil's character. These levels do pick up at the end of the origional game and continue on with what happened to him after the ending of the initial game. These are also rather well made, but they are extreamly platform-heavy as well as somewhat labyrinth-like. The other thing to note with them is that they are treated as a second game. You have to pick it in the main game menu after download, and the items collected do not transfer back to Dante's game. Since it is more of a mini-game, with only a few levels, it isn't actually neccisary, but still something you might want to know before buying.
