Top customer reviews
First a bit of history though. I originally bought the King Series chair. When it arrived and I put it together I found that the chair was extremely comfortable but after about 30-45 mins things began to get a bit numb. The King Series has plenty of cushion but the cushion is super firm and it was just too hard for me. Fortunately/unfortunately the arm broke on the King Series and I was able to send it back. King Series is still an awesome chair and if you want a firm chair it is the one to go with.
Then I decided to go with the Iron Series and I bought this. I had researched and found it hinted that for firmness, King was most firm, Iron was next and Max was the most cushioned. So keep that in mind. If you want a lot and softer cushion you want the Max Series. Very firm, King Series and something in between go with the Iron Series. (If you are smaller than or about 5'8" and 230lbs or under, go with the D-Series for comfort. D-Series is the one I would recommend for more average sized women too. I had D-Series at my previous work).
Now then. The Iron Series. Great chair. There are some key differences from the King Series beyond firmness. Firstly the Iron Series hugs you a bit more in the chair. I am 6' and 265lbs and I fit pretty good. If you are much wider than that (I wear a 44 pant) then you probably want the King Series. I like that the chair hugs me a bit because it reminds me of my Mustang racing style seat. The other bit is on the seat area. The sides of the King come up a bit to hug your legs more where the Iron is low so you can spread your legs a bit more. I think the King has a version though with lower seat sides. They both support me with no problems and they both come just behind my knees. The Iron series not quite into the fold of my knee and the King right against the back of the knee. So close to the same seating area.
The only other difference I saw was with the arms. The style of arms is a bit different and the Iron series allows one more adjustment than the King. The Iron lets you move the arms in towards your body or out away from your body. So side to side?
Anyway, all DX Racer chairs are excellent chairs. Finding the right one can be hit and miss, so hopefully this review helps you. I'll be doing a YouTube review with pictures shortly that I'll try and post here because I couldn't find a lot to help m decide when I was looking.
There are two major downsides to the chair, though:
-It's heavy. While it wouldn't typically bother me, if you're barefoot and careless, or have anything small around you - this thing will crush it like a monster truck. The hard plastic coasters are very, very unforgiving of toes or small hands if you have a crawler.
-The hydraulic that's in my chair is (I think) not functioning as intended. If I'm not sitting in my chair, over the course of 5 minutes or so, the chair will lift itself up to the highest setting. While I didn't think negatively of this at first, it gets inconvenient. While I'm sitting in the chair, if my weight is not planted directly above the hydraulic (i.e. leaning back), this also happens, but at a MUCH more gradual rate. I was leaning back one night, and as I stood up I put my hand on the front of the armrest. As I stood up, the chair lifted enough to pinch my hand between the arm rest and the corner of my desk, and for anyone who knows what it feels like getting your hand closed in a door, you can sympathize.
--I like to roll my chair under my desk when I'm not sitting in it to save space. I can't do that with this chair. It fits until it lifts itself up.
