Until I heard this, I used to regard "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In" as a single that was superficial glitz. How wrong one can be. In this raw version, the Fifth Dimension rocks and when Billy Davis Jr. brings his gospel roots to its coda, he sings with the best of them. Gladys Knight, with her gospel grit on "I Heard It Through the Grapevine", proves she can't be outdone as a live singer. Herbie Mann's combo reworks Sam and Dave's "Hold On, I'm Comin'" into a mesmerizing jazz groove. Check out Sonny Sharrock's guitar on that one. Nina Simone's "Backlash Blue" finds her singing for her life and for many others. And a couple of Latin groups I was unaware of fit right in.
Unsurprisingly, Sly and the Family Stone and his band of no racial or gender boundaries is a major highlight. The political sensibilities in "Everyday People" gets to be heard in the open air and you can dance to the funk of its 45RPM flipside, "Sing a Simple Song". Yes, I'm really that old. They hold up like it's yesterday. Finally, prepare yourself to get misty-eyed when you hear the duet with Mahalia Jackson and Mavis Staples, "Precious Lord Take My Hand". Such is the power of great music, it makes you believe.
Due to Aamir Questlove's dedication to this project, history has now been righted. If only I'd been a little older and 100 miles closer...
A great piece of Black History that is very important for all American's to see and listen to.
It is a shame that it took so long for this event to finally be presented to the public, who knew nothing of
this concert because of foolish bigoted censorship.
Quest Love deserves all the credit in the world for not only bringing this gem to the masses but also for doing it with such class.
Wonderful film and fantastic music by brilliant artists who deserve more recognition for their talent.

The sound quality is not very good either. The music from this movie is so strong, but when it's presented like this, it doesn't live up to my expectations.
I hope, the DVD is coming soon.
