Well, this isn't it.
There is no way that this resembles milk in any way, shape, or fashion.
It doesn't pour like milk, it certainly doesn't taste like milk, and is certainly no way a MILK of any type.
It is a rice beverage. So those looking for something that tastes like milk-- this isn't it.
This has a smoother, creamier texture than milk, but amazingly doesn't taste like a bowl of rice either.
I use this in conventional dishes people would typically use milk, fully understanding that it DOES NOT TASTE LIKE MILK.
It tastes BETTER!!!
No matter what kind of milk I've ever had, it has always tasted like it was on the verge of going bad. As I got older, not only did milk not really taste good to me-- but I found that I really shouldn't drink it. Won't bore you with the details, but lets just say I'm most likely lactose intolerant and leave it at that.
I was on a quest to find something to replace milk in daily things-- coffee, tea, cooking etc.
I tried nut milks, but often they were too strong flavored-- leaving dishes like mashed potatoes tasting absolutely disgusting. This makes PERFECT mashed potatoes. This is the PERFECT coffee and tea creamer-- it naturally has a creamy sweet taste, so pairs well with dishes/beverages you want a creamy slightly sweet taste.
This is by far THE BEST smoothie maker.
And, this is perfect for those of us who LOVE horchata but do not have the time to properly prepare it! (I've heard the company makes Horchata as well, but until the horchata is available in the 64oz at a reasonable price on Amazon I'm not buying it.
This item last time I've purchased it was $3.48 for the 64oz-- a great price for a great item.
Hint to those that have trouble with shipping, I usually order 10-12 at a time, and they usually pack them in so tight they don't bang around and get yucky. If you order ONE for your prime pantry box with an order of things like potato chips-- your shipment probably isn't going to be nice. I'll sometimes place a pantry order of my mashables and later an order of stuff like this-- heavy and potentially leak-able. This probably isn't convenient for most, but as we enter this day and age of online grocery shopping I kind of treat it like I do when I'm loading groceries up on the conveyor belt at the store-- like with like-- so when you get home it is easy to sort and put away-- I do my amazon orders the same. Again the method may not convenient for most; but that method is working for me.
Out of the multitudes of orders I've placed with Amazon for this exact item I only had ONE shipment that didn't make it. It was when I was first introduced to prime pantry and I think I only ordered one or two of these 64 oz containers in a box that I think had canned soup. (I can't remember--but it was apparently damaged in transit)
UPS dude showed up with a leaking box--
"You want to refuse it?"
"YEP"
DONE
Amazon made good on it. That is why I shop here :D
I've been ordering this regularly and am a bit bummed it is currently not available.
My hand is poised above the order button because I am ready to order as soon as Amazon has it available.
The only problem I've ever faced so far is the trouble I have today. I want to order and can't :(
I'm hopeful actually they take it off of pantry and put it on subscribe and save. I need a dozen boxes a month and would prefer to not think about having to order it all the time.
NOW FOR THE HEALTH BENEFITS
I didn't get this drink to drink for health.
Remember the slogan "Milk, it does a body good?" then we found out it didn't?
Well, this probably has some of the same health issues milk does, minus the antibiotic/hormone/cow torture.
It isn't super great for your body health wise. It is loaded with carbs. It's like...liquid carbs.
I'm sure with the smooth texture my body is quickly utilizing those carbs and turning them right to sugar.
It has oils that aren't necessarily great for our organ systems. But, I'd highly suspect the fats in cow's milk to be a thousand times more damaging. So, consider it a step above cows milk, but don't expect it to be a fully healthy beverage.
I drink it because I like it, just like I'll occasionally down a big plate of french fries. I know it may not be the healthiest alternative, but there are worse things out there I'm sure ;)
Anywho, that is my review.
This is my favorite rice beverage for what it is, and you'll love it too as long as you go in with the expectation that it is NOT MILK.
Because I don't use a lot of it, I opted for the 32 fl oz (1QT) 946mL containers this time around as it only stays fresh for 7 to 10 days after opening. If I used more I'd get the 64 fl oz Rice Dream Rice Drink , also sold on Amazon. These do come in the aseptic boxes, which should last up to a year, but the expiration date on mine was ten months out. No problem for me, but a heads up for those who like to stock up.
The cost is higher, but I don't have to travel to get it, and as I've often said, no one will put a ding in my car door when I head in to get some. My only problem with shipping is whomever is the shipper tossed the box so hard that three of the plastic tops were dislodged. The seals were intact, but I simply refrigerated and used these first. The box they came in was actually difficult to get into as they were so well packed. Prime shipping may be the issue here because they have to move the product (I'm not close to a warehouse). I'm giving my rating on the Rice Dream, not the shipping as that was less than ideal. Convenience is great and I'm happy with that. I put an abbreviated list of nutritional and ingredients from a box.
Rice Dream "Milkshake"
1/2 cup Rice Dream (Original, Enriched)
1 cup Rice Dream frozen dessert flavor of your choice
In a blender, whip all ingredients, adding more frozen dessert if a thicker shake is desired. Or, pour beverage into a tall glass, add frozen dessert several large spoonfuls at a time, and stir briskly. Add more frozen dessert until desired consistency is reached.

Once upon a time, I drank cow's milk available at local stores. I don't remember it causing any intestinal duress, so more than likely I was not lactose intolerant. Then, I became vegetarian, then vegan.
After becaming an omnivore again, I started having intestinal cowardice after eating cattle dairy products, like milk. Alas, I could not eat a soul food of my upbringing, milk and cookies.
After a decade or so, I was able to eat cow's milk dairy products again. Was it ample ingestion of what a friend considered to be a good probiotic? Had my guts simply recovered? Since I am unable to conduct double blind studies on myself, I actually don't know.
Unfortunately, I can't stand the taste of cow's milk now. I love the taste of Rice Dream Original Enriched, so that's now my beverage of choice with cookies. It's sweetened, but not sIckeningly so. It has a pleasant mouthfeel, and does not cause intestinal discomfort for lactose intolerant folks.
