5.0 out of 5 stars Got the power on view
By Michael on August 13, 2019
Not sure how the picture will show on line as it kept laying it on it's side no matter what I tried. I wanted a way to monitor the power coming in on both phases of the 50amp into to our RV because I have had a lot of problems with faulty campground power boxes because of corrosion usually, faulty breakers where one half of the dual 50 amp breaker was bad and many other conditions usually a result of poor maintenance of the facilities. I Made the box shown so that both phases are shown, A on top and B below. The multimeters monitor voltage and current and of course with those the math for instant power readings and kilowatt hours consumed. Now I can see phase balance and or power input problems, ie. the voltages should be the same or at least with a couple of volts depending on the park wiring loads. The wiring shown has since been covered. The little volt meter on the bottom in red is the DC voltage coming straight out of the converter that runs your DC power while plugged in and battery power when not. I will be purchasing additional units as the price is right for the function and quality. The install did require cutting the locking tabs to fit the thickness of the plexiglass panel I mounted them on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice inexpensive meter and easy to install.
By Jim on April 25, 2016
I purchased this meter to check the current being used by various appliances that I plan to use in my trailer. I installed it in some sort of plastic electrical box I found at a big box home improvement store. I didn't want to use a larger double gang box and found this one for less than $2 including the cover plate. I had hoped to install this in the cover plate but it wasn't big enough so I cut out the side of the box with a rotary cutter in a dremel tool and it made for a pretty neat installation. I bought a cheap appliance (14 gauge) extension cord to run in and out of the box. My finished product is like an extension cord with the meter in the middle. Plug whatever you want to measure into the end of the cord and plug the other end of the cord into an outlet and instant current and voltage measuring capability. With the box being so small and the cord very thick it was a really tight fit and I would have been better off with a bigger box but it worked out OK.
The meter does most of what I want. It was easy to install but the instructions for setting the display are lacking. Some people complain about the locking tabs only being able to fit on a very thin faceplate. I was able to overcome this by using a cutoff wheel in a dremel tool and very slightly shortening the end of the locking tabs. Go easy here if you try this as the plastic pretty much instantly melted when touched with the spinning cutoff wheel. For less than $20 this is a pretty neat meter. I hope it lasts a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great meter for the price
By Anthony on December 25, 2017
This meter works as intended for what it is used for. I use it to determine the power of devices used with an inverter. It is out of it's black box in the picture with no load connected and reads 120VAC - .05 A or 50 mA - .5W. I tested this meter from 16W to 750W and it is very accurate. Care to guess why it has a reading with no load? Think before you answer. Remember, whether the unit is turned on or off there is still a wire going through the CT that has a potential on it namely 120VAC. And yes, the house is properly grounded and the meter gives the same result using the hot or neutral AC wire and reversing the CT wires made no difference because it's irrelevant. This meter does exactly what it's supposed to do. Let's hope it passes the test of time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Electrically good, mechanically not so good.
Reviewed in Canada on June 12, 2016
Good value for the price. The voltage and current are close enough to what my Fluke meters measure. The leads of the current transformer should be at least twice as long as they are now to be useful right out of the box. Lost a rating star because one of the mounting clips broke the very first time I tried to install it into a panel...had to fasten it in place with a thick rubber band and electrical tape.

Edit 12 Sep 2016 Drop rating to 2 stars. This unit failed 6 weeks after installation. The display started flashing when the monitored load was switched on and then after a week of flashing behaviour the display went black. I was monitoring a 240 V 14A load which was well within the operating parameters of this unit. Drok was initially quick to respond asking me to do some tests on the unit but then went silent for a while causing me to complain to Amazon. Amazon agreed to refund my purchase but then Drok finally came through with a refund. I did purchase a replacement unit which has worked OK for a couple of weeks now.

If you want to get a better view of where the most of the electric bill is going, then this kind of meter is a must. Initially the meter was warming up a little bit when put on 240V because the original internal power supply is working to as little as 26V AC. The 1uF capacitor is too much for 240V. I had to reduce-it to 0.22uF to have no heat at all. This should take care of some issues that can develop over time with thermal stress, some reported their meter died. There is no need to keep the back screen light on since the view is so clear for this particular display. Overall very happy with my purchase.

If you think the power value is wrong, it is because the formula to calculate the true / real / active power, is different than the formula P = U*I cause you need to consider the power factor. The load reflects some power into the web but is not consumed. That's why there is a correction. The seller helped me to understand my mistake.

I would had liked like everybody said, longer cables and extra cables for the direct connexion. The amount of time you need to connect those things because of their shortness is ridiculous.

Good value for the money. Seems to be giving accurate results: my furnace is 20kW and the reading is exactly 20kW. It’s scary to see how every 3 minutes 1kWhr is consumed!
The direction of the writing on the back is misleading: if you install the device so that the writing is in the correct direction then the display will be upside down. The diagram is correct and you have to follow the indicated wire connection. Just make sure that the button is to the right of the display and the display will be fine.
