It tells you the basics you may want to know - instant voltage, current and power readings, as well energy (power integrated over time). I am not quite sure if it is in mWh or in mAh, but with variable voltage the former should be the sensible unit.
This little unit is perfect for checking both the amps and volts simultaneously delivered to two devices (plug in one device (port 1) and record the amps drawn, then plug in the second device (port 2) and subtract the total amps drawn by both devices from those drawn by the first device).
Port 1 is for both charging and data transfer, while port 2 is for charging only!
I have both the AboveTek and DROK meters which appear to be identical (both were not labeled with the company name, but now DROK has added their name to this product). Both meters show volts and amps in bright digital LED red and blue, respectively, and measure a wide volt and amp range. I now use these all the time to monitor the charge voltage and current of all of my devices to ensure the optimal charge rate. There is no switch to show the volts and amps output for USB port 1 and USB port 2 separately. Many meters on the market only measure amps, don't have the short and very useful cable attached, and in some of them the meter window is very annoyingly upside-down.
N.B. SOMETIMES YOU CAN GET THE DROK FOR LOWER PRICES ON AMAZON SO COMPARE THE PRICES FOR THIS PRODUCT
HERE IS A MORE RECENT DROK PRODUCT LINK IN WHICH THEIR NAMED DEVICE IS NOW $ 13.00, BUT I EXPECT IT TO DROP TO BELOW $ 10.00 AGAIN SOON!

I read with interest an old review (reviewer: mikehorn who commented that using the AboveTek USB meter: see 1st review) that the PortaPow charging cables were found by him to be the fastest available, and they are also available in three different lengths.
PortaPow Specialised 8ft 22AWG Charge Only Micro USB Cable for Blackberry, Xperia, HTC One, Google Nexus, Other Fast Charging Devices
PortaPow Specialised 5ft 22AWG Charge Only Micro USB Cable for Blackberry, Xperia, HTC One, Google Nexus, Other Fast Charging Devices
PortaPow, and other companies (e.g. Sabrent, Plugable) (see in Amazon) also produce small fast charging devices which are inserted into the USB port ahead of the devise for charging to generate super charging speeds.
PortaPow Apple or Universal USB fast charging units:
PortaPow Fast Charge Only USB Adapter for Apple iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, PS Vita, HTC One, Google Nexus, Other Fast Charging Devices
Sabrent USB Turbo Charging Adapter for Apple iPhone, iPad, Android, and other devices [Simulates 1A Charger on Powered USB Port] (HB-SFST)
Plugable Power USB Universal Fast Charge-Only Adapter for for Android, Apple iOS, and Windows Devices - Universal Support for Apple iPhone (5s, 5c, 5, 4s, 4), iPad (Air, Mini, Retina), iPod, Samsung Galaxy S Tab Note, Google Nexus, Motorola Droid, HTC, ...
MediaBridge also claim to have very fast charging cables with gold plated connections, and while some are straight others are conveniently coiled:
Mediabridge USB 2.0 - Micro-USB to USB Coiled Cable (1.5-3 Feet) - High-Speed A Male to Micro B with Gold-Plated Connectors
Mediabridge USB 2.0 - Micro-USB to USB Coiled Cable (2.5-6 Feet) - High-Speed A Male to Micro B with Gold-Plated Connectors
N.B. A WARNING: I have also noticed that the greater weight of the coiled cables of the Mediabridge fast charging cables add a strain on the connectors to the power sourve and the device being charged if the cable is not supported and which can result in these connectors being bent.
[N.B. Another warning these fast charge cables have a number of criticisms regarding the robustness of their connectors (see reviews in Amazon)] While I'm not an engineer, I think that it would be quite difficult for an engineer to design and produce a very robust and inexpensive micro USB connector that would work on all the massive range of different micro USB products from the different companies! Thus, it seems that you should treat all USB charging cables with care!
I have tested these PortaPow and Mediabridge fast charging cables and they do what they claim, but it is important to appreciate that fast USB charging generates more heat, which may ultimately shorten the life of the device's battery.
I have therefore found the AboveTek (generally more expensive than DROK) and DROK USB meters very useful to assess the charge rates into multiple USB devises through different fast (e.g. Mediabridge and Portapow) and normal speed cables and these fast charging plug-in devises, AS WELL AS BEING VERY USEFUL TO OPTIMALLY DIRECT SMALL (3-7 Watt)SOLAR PANELS TO OBTAIN THEIR GREATEST OUTPUTS, due to their low maximum outputs of 5V 0.6A to 5V 1.4A respectively. This is important because many people are opting to carry very small light-weight solar panels for light-weight backpacking (see my wide range of light-weight solar panels on my review of the Goal Zero Nomad 7 and Guide 10 battery charger in Amazon).
The author declares that NO CONFLICTS OF INTEREST EXIST in the review of this product or any other product mentioned in this review.
With few exceptions, excellent build quality (doesn’t “feel cheap”).
ABOUT YHE COMPANY AND THEIR PRODUCT-
Their devices frequently have many features, maybe beyond what you needed included but that’s just it; A great Value!
AND, if you’re a casual DIYer you could read up on the stuff you didn’t need it to do and Learn something. I’m well-trained and paid for what I do. Yet every job/client I do typically has an added bonus of some pearls of wisdom for me, or others the next time. Knowledge is Power...Pun intended ;)
When I’m looking for a meter or other similar device, I ONLY shop the DROK products. The instructions coming with this product are excellent (see below for more on that in general).
THIS THING is great to see current flow, check your charge cables, it’s NOT a way to discharge a battery, and doesn’t really work effectively (for the lay-person) to see charging rates. It’s best for voltage, live load, draw.
Nite on cables-I have some ISB cables that are wired weird. They will lower but not transfer data. Some do the opposite. Some have product-specific circuits or chips. You might throw away a good cable. Use this to sort things out.
Now, let’s address some of the other reviews I’ve read-
A-Reviews should be about the product and not the shipping, Amazon itself, etc.
B-Every product ordered, from a 737 to a pencil can have a bad one off the assembly line. Don’t review-shame the seller until AFTER you attempt to rectify things with them.
C-Several people report that it’s inaccurate, or never reads any different values.
This is actually what it should do, in a way, depending on your intended use. Most modern devices (more and more every day) have “Smart” charging. They regulate the charging to preserve the lifetime of the battery itself. It doesn’t pull full power all the time. That smart charging also helps when you are using a spare battery bank on-the-go.
Do you have an iPhone? Check this: Settings>Battery>Battery Health and if “Optimized Battery Charging” is ON, that’s an example of Smart charging.
Point a webcam that records at this meter. Go to bed. In the morning watch the recording in FastFWD and you’ll likely see some changes to the readout values.
D-STOP taking away stars because the instructions are not written by a Harvard English Professor. Most products are made in Asia and the translation to American English is tough. We have words they don’t. Sometimes these read funny or totally crazy. “Insert the plug to flow watermelon to have extended happy value”. Seriously.
If you don’t have a clue how to use something and your expectation is to open the box, plug it in, and Voila! Instant answer or problem solved without any understanding of what you’re looking at, you’re over-reaching. Don’t expect a single small sheet of paper to give you an Electronics Theory PhD.
Do This- Read the entire listing product description. If THAT reads crazy, SO WILL the instructions. Move on to another seller.
ALSO, search YouTube before purchase for HOW to do your project. Many times, this explains what to do with your new gizmo even before it arrives. In a recent case for myself on a client’s project that just would NOT produce their expected results, I searched YouTube. Not only did I find a solution, I discovered a new product I didn’t know existed, and, just as I describe above, watching a guy install the device completely made up for the “stick-figure” instruction sheet. I was ready to go when I got to her house.
AND I came in well under-budget and looked like a genius. What I learned will repay me more than the pay on that 1 job.
I even bought a 2nd one of those devices for my own home.
The current and voltages measured by this thing are very accurate, easily within 1% of what I get on
a DVM. The display is bright and easy to understand.
My only knock against it is that it comes with zero instructions, so if you want to use any of the other displays or functionality of it, you either start touching the buttons and fumbling around, or hunt on the internet for write-ups that other people have figured out and had the kindness to write. Honestly, for a measurement device, they should at least enclose instructions. That why I knocked off a star.

Clearly one of the reasons why the iPad did not charge, was that the defective charging cord only works depending on which side it's plugged in.
It could have also prove that the part that the technician installed, was likely not installed properly, still not working, and at great cost me for the charging port.
If not only proved that the guy was lying to me and charged me over $214CN dollars to fix a $99 item that Apple would have fixed.
Now, they did something to make my screen inoperable and was trying to hold me ransom to spending more money to replace both the screen and install a new battery. I know if I take it to Apple, the repairs wouldn't be this exorbitant nor would I be ripped off!
The fact that the battery has since charged, and held its charge, there is clearly no need to recommending it to be replaced. I wish I had this product before I even took it to the service technician.

While the monitors read out is rather small it’s still bright enough to read even in a well-lit room. What it shows you provides all of the details you need to keep an eye on your batteries and chargers. By showing charger Voltage, Current, Charging Wattage, and Calculated Battery Capacity you can:
~Determine if your charger is putting out enough current, see if it matches what its rated at
~See if the voltage drops when the charger is putting out high current (Amps) which is a bad thing
~View the power being consumed, Watts while charging or just running a device off of the charger
~Battery capacity, you’ll need to start with a dead battery in order for this to be relatively accurate
This last item is a must if you need to determine if your battery is taking a full charge. As an example, if a battery is rated at 3000Mah and the monitor shows its only taken 2100Mah worth of current but shows full, then the battery is no longer able to be fully charged and probably why your battery hungry phone won’t last all day on a single charge.
There is one more element in battery charging that’s very important, battery temperature. Unfortunately, this device has no possible way of monitoring internal battery temperatures and you’ll need to rely on the charge circuitry built into the phone itself to ensure there are no overheating issues.
While monitoring the four functions above it still passes data and I found that it did not slow down the transfer speeds including USB 3.
There will be times when you plug it in and the display will read upside down, a button located on the bottom when depressed momentarily will reboot the device and flip the display around.
Using this is as easy as plugging a USB cord into a charger and then the device. Simply plug the display into the USB port first and then plug the cable into the other end of the display. Now connect your phone or other device and that’s it.
I’ve tested it on several chargers and devices and found it to be accurate when compared to bench meters.
If I were able to make a suggestion to the manufacturer it would be to increase the size of the display.
