    I needed a serial interface for a commercial prototype that offered total isolation. I'm familiar with the FT232RL and prefer it over other USB-to-serial chips because of broader platform compatibility, especially with newer versions of Windows. The DSD unit worked flawlessly out of the box, connected with my Windows 10 system and my prototype and has been running experiments all day without a hitch.
    I had to take isolation a step further by removing the DC-to-DC converter (the big black rectangle) and supply 5v power from the prototype. The nice acrylic case the DSD unit came in was easy to disassemble. A little prying with a jeweler's screwdriver and voila... I had access to the board to remove the converter. Afterwards it snapped back together without a fuss.
    This is a clean, well-designed unit that does what it's supposed to do. Highly recommended.

    This adapter works great. It is a nice design and actually has a case on it unlike other adapters that are just a bare board. It was tested to make sure it was really isolated and it is. If you need an isolated TTL adapter with the FT232RL chipset this is the one to get.

    The pullup on RXD is way too strong, 4.7 kohm. I had to desolder it to get incoming data to be read because the slave device couldn't fight that resistor enough (dropped to like 0.6 volts when it needs 0v). After that, isolation works at 115200 baud. I dislike that this sends power to target device. Really should just receive power for the return signals -- I'm pretty sure in noisy environments, it's going to need to be removed.

    Quand on cherche une liaison USB-ttl fiable, ce composant a une bonne puce FTDI, avec driver compatible windows même >10, linux ubuntu, mac, et il est isolé, donc plus de pb de CEM et tension secondaire disponible. Attention, il y a plusieurs versions chez le fabricant. Ca m'a sauvé pour faire fonctionner un appareil et le PC, car sinon les deux plantaient avec un câble non isolé.
    Je crois que ça existe aussi chez ce fabricant en version USB-UART, les signaux UART étant inversé par rapport à ttl, mais en 3 ou 5V contrairement au RS232 en -12/+12V.
