DSI left-handed keyboard not just for the lefties!

I'm right-handed but I love this left-handed keyboard. Keys are very fast. A while ago I had to switch to a vertical mouse to save my wrist from developing carpal-tunnel. And when I needed to type numbers because vertical mouse is so tall I would bump it into the keyboard a lot. This keyboard forced me to use left hand for number pad and it's great. It took a couple of weeks to get used to it but it's worth it. I now type faster and my wrists don't hurt. Buy it, you won't regret this purchase.

Unbelievably Exceptionally Quality Keyboard

I wish I could give this item 6 stars instead of 5. This keyboard is meant to last a VERY VERY long time. Absolutely exceptional quality. I literally used to bring mine to work with me every day instead of using my company's garbage keyboards. I eventually bought a second one for home! I wasn't even sure what I was buying when I clicked on it. I have been using mine for several months now. It is showing no wear despite my heavy use of it. The reason the price is higher than other keyboards is its exceptional resilience when typing. You don't have to fight it; just lightly tap the keys and they readily bounce back. Its like the typewriter keys I used in middle school in the early 90's. You won't develop hand and wrist problems like you do from inferior quality keyboards. If you already have hand/wrist problems (like me), this keyboard will lessen your pain because you are actually doing less work while typing. Its definitely just that good and worth the extra price. Unbelievable.

Feels like it was made just for lefty me

I love that all the main keys are on the left side (i.e. delete, page up and down). I am accustomed to doing 10-key with my right hand so I struggled a little with the number pad but I appreciate being able to have the mouse closer in now. I have noticed the stress in my wrists is reduced and I no longer cross over myself to press buttons. My left hand is happy about that :) The only dislike for this item is that it is not wireless (the price is a bit much for the lack of wireless as well). Also, my officemates don't appreciate the loud clicking sound the keys make. I'll admit, it can get annoying at times (the faster you type the worse the sound is).

Actually a great mechanical keyboard for right handers!

This is a great ergonomic keyboard for people who use a mouse with the right hand. By moving the arrow cluster and numpad to the left side of the keyboard, it frees up room for the mouse on the right side. I can sit centered to the keyboard's home row and the mouse lines up perfectly for my right hand. I do a lot of work on the computer, so not having to reach for the mouse really helps my wrist and back. In my opinion, all RIGHT handed keyboards should be designed this way.

The Cherry MX Red switches are fantastic. They're quiet for mechanical keys and require very little force to press while still springing back up instantly. Prior to this keyboard, I was using a Ducky mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX Brown switches. The brown switches provide a tactile bump so you know when the key has been pushed far enough to register. Most people recommend browns for typing, but I'd have to disagree after trying out the reds. The reds just provide linear resistance without the tactile bump, but I feel like I can type much faster with the Reds. They require less force to register and spring back up faster and quieter. Though, it's also fairly easy to hit keys without intending to, since you really only need to push the keys down about a third of the way before it registers.

This keyboard still has some flaws, though. The supposedly left-handed numpad is not meant for left-handed use at all. The way keyboard numpads are designed, the 0 key should be pressed by the thumb and the enter and + keys should be pressed by the pinky. But by moving the numpad to the left hand side without mirroring the key layout, the keys do not line up with their respective fingers. It baffles me why DSI did not mirror the numpad, maybe their designers have two right hands? I would prefer spending a few minutes to relearn a mirrored numpad than have to contort my fingers to hit keys meant to be used with the opposite hand.

Another issue is the backspace key is tiny while the enter key is huge. Who even uses this layout anymore?! Practically every keyboard out there nowadays increases the size of the back space key and replaces part of the enter key with the backslash. I use the backspace key much more than the enter key, and having to stretch my pinky to the furthest corner to hit a tiny key is pretty cumbersome. The enter key is easy enough to hit as it is, it doesn't need to be 5 times the size of other keys. I guess the positive side to this is that it forces me type with fewer errors so I don't have to use the backspace key as often.

Lastly, the keyboard bezel is much larger than it needs to be. There's a 3/4 inch bezel around the entire keyboard, which ends up taking valuable desk space. Maybe it's needed for structural support, but then they could have used another material than just plastic. My Ducky mechanical keyboard, which I got for $20 less than this keyboard, is made from metal. I'm sure they could afford to use a better material.

Even with these issues, I still believe this is the best keyboard for right handers available. The Cherry MX Red switches and the freed up space on the right side of the keyboard are wonderful features. I'm glad DSI decided to make this keyboard, even though there's not a very big market for it. Hopefully, they will release another iteration with a better numpad layout and backspace keys. If you're in the market for a mechanical keyboard, I would highly recommend this one!

Nice quality keyboard for left handers

This is the second DSI left-handed keyboard I have purchased. I chose it specifically because I use the 10 key function all day long in my accounting position so having that on the left side makes my job so much easier. The first one I purchased was a little noisy, the keys sort of made a "clacking" sound. I got used to it but while I was on vacation a co worker was switching out the left handed keyboard to a right one for her own use and she dropped my keyboard. It still worked but one of the foots underneath to slant the keyboard was broken off. I ordered the exact same keyboard became I liked it so well. The second one did not have the "clacking" noise issue, which was a plus. If you are left handed, I would recommend this keyboard.

I love it. But, it does take a little getting used to after using a regular keyboard for so many years. I work primarily in video production and photo manipulation, and the hardest part is getting used to where the escape key and the number pad enter/home/end keys are located. The build quality is excellent. I bought this for use in the home office, and I like it so much I'm going to try to get one at work.

I rate this unit as 5 stars because 1. It is a true lefty keyboard with no clutter on the right. 2. It has real switches with a long throw that makes it easier to use . 3. Early in the modern computer era, circa 1978 -1982, all keyboards had good quality noisy switches that gave you feed back instead of the crap being pushed today. This feels just like the keyboards I used then. 4. It is 3 or four times heavier than most modern keyboards so it stays put when using it, instead of sliding around.
