I have two seven year olds who want DS's for Christmas. All their friends have them. Should I just go with the Lite for young'uns and save the $40 x 2? Mainly they will want to play games. I'm not sure I want them to have wifi because I want to be able to monitor what they access

S. JOHNSON says:
I would go with the DS Lite. You get both slots so they can play the older game boy advanced games if they want. The DSi has done away with the second slot so no more GBA game capability. Why pay for the wifi if you dont want them to use it and the camera is poor quality. I asked my 12 year old if she wanted to upgrade but she declined as she likes the GBA slot for her older games and already has a digital camera.

Thanks for the input. I was leaning that way anyway. And if your 12 year old is satisfied, i'm sure my 1st graders will be.

DSi has parental controls though...you can turn pico chat, internet, etc., off if you want with a 4 digit code.

Can I download games from my computer to the DSi, or do I need to buy special internet service for the DSi? Anyone knows?

Em says:
dsi connects to your network via wifi. It does not connect to the internet otherwise

Both systems use wifi, there is no built in store for the DSlite, that is exclusive to the dsi, all wireless is free and 1st graders probably won't be on the web
