Transmit Movies, Music, and More Wirelessly
With the DVDO Air3, you can wirelessly transmit 1080p HD video and 7.1 surround sound to an HDTV from any HDMI source, such as a cable or satellite box, a Blu-ray player, a DVR, an audio/video receiver, or a laptop. With its intelligent RF beam-forming technology, the DVDO Air3 creates a cable-quality wireless connection, so you can remove connecting wires that spoil the look of an entertainment center. The DVDO Air3 system offers an in-room range of up to 10 meters and can even bounce its signal off a wall or ceiling if you want to hide the system completely.
MHL Connectivity for Mobile Devices
The DVDO Air3 supports Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL), which allows the user to mirror content from their MHL-enabled smartphone or tablet onto a large-screen display. As an additional benefit, MHL also charges the mobile device while connected.
Full HDMI Compliance for Optimal Performance
Part of DVDO's line of home theater components, the DVDO Air3 is fully HDMI compliant, enabling it to transmit high quality 1080p video, HD surround sound, and 3D video. This product also supports Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) protocols, which allow you to use your TV remote to control the source device. DVDO Air3 is designed to work with DVDO's video switching products such as DVDO Quick6, Matrix6 and iScan Duo to provide a reliable wireless solution for the home theater.
60GHz Technology to Prevent Interference
DVDO Air3 features 60GHz wireless technology to deliver full HDMI video with surround sound without interruption. This is possible because other wireless devices such as mobile phones, cordless phones, and Wi-Fi networks use radio frequencies that are much lower than 60GHz, so they do not interfere with Air3 operation.
Easy Installation Options
Cut your installation costs and speed up installation with the DVDO Air3. Since the device is wireless, you won't have to deal with messy cords or worry about climbing your attic, drilling holes, or patching your drywall.
The DVDO Air3 system offers a variety of mounting options. The receiver can be attached to a wall or to the back of your HDTV to facilitate installation and maximize the wireless range. The transmitter can also be attached to a wall or equipment rack. Once you have connected the transmitter to a source device and the receiver to your HDTV's HDMI input, you can enjoy exceptional picture and sound without any unsightly cables.
The Air3 transmitter and receivers are 75 percent smaller than DVDO's original Air. Each is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. The piece that goes behind the TV is only 3/4-inch thick. The kit includes screws to directly mount the receiver to the wall behind the TV, a snap bracket and adhesive pads that enable direct mounting to the back of the TV (for arm-mounted TVs), and a ceiling-mount bracket for projector applications.
The receiver and transmitter each measures only 4 by 3.5 by 1 inches (H x W x D). Each transmitter/receiver consumes 3W (up to 10W for charging phone).

Set up could not be simpler, plug an HDMI cable and power into both ends and more than likely the signal will pop up on the television. The transmitter simply takes whatever HDMI signal it's receiving (up to 1080p) and pushes it wirelessly at 60ghz to the receiver. DVDO says the receiver can sit behind a television (with the signal bouncing off the ceiling) but they recommend that the tops of both units are visible to each other for best results.
The Air3 can transmit up to about 10 meters (roughly 32 feet) if there are no obstructions between the transmitter and receiver. I tested the product in my basement and found that the signal held up well even beyond the recommended maximum when the both sides were in sight of each other.
Surprisingly the Air3 has no noticeable latency in the connection, meaning gamers will not see a delay between button pushes and action on the screen. The device also supports HDCP copy protection so PS3 and PS4 owners should have no trouble getting their consoles to work properly.
The bottom line? This is a very capable wireless HDMI transmitter that will work great provided all components are in the same room.
I bought this for a "commercial" installation - my Church auditorium. In summary, this solved all my installation problems for less than installing cables!
We just got two new projectors with HDMI (previous installation was VGA cabling) and needed to feed them from the sound booth at the back. Because of the architecture, HDMI cabling would have been a little over 100 feet - too far for normal HDMI cables, and admittedly we have a little unsolved ground loop problem that causes trouble with HDBaseT and Baluns. The direct line-of-sight from the booth to each projector is (calculated using a little fancy trig) 70 out and 22 up so 73 feet. The spec on Air3 is 10 Meters (about 30 feet) so at more than double I called tech support. The vague answer was that Air3 is intended for in-room applications and bounces off walls so it can be hidden, but for direct shots, it goes much futher - I should "try it in my situation to see"... Apparently the distance is dependent on what gets in the way, what it can bounce off etc.
Bottom line, for the $4 overnight Prime, it was worth the test as cabling would not have been fun - Works great. I am feeding two projectors and connection is solid. One note - this is not a one-to-two broadcast system - I need a transmit/receiver Air3 pair for each projector.
I'm sending full 1080p normally but it also handles PC resolutions and even a 480p DVD player we hook up periodically. I'm not sending audio to the projectors but the video is excellent.Read more ›
My priority is picture and audio quality. I need high-bit rate audio support (Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio) and 1080p.
Set is real easy.
It took me about 5 minutes to set up the Air3.
I connected my Blu-ray player output to the transmitter and the receiver output to my AVR with the supplied short HDMI cables. I then applied power to both units. That's it.
The transmitter is not directly pointed at the receiver but I made sure it is pointed at my ceiling to allow it to reflect to the receiver.
I have used the Air3 for about 2 weeks with no issues. 1080p picture quality is excellent and my AVR is correctly decoding TrueHD and DTS-MA from my movies.
One of my concerns about using a wireless adapter is the time it takes to lock on to a signal or to wake up from standby. I have detected no noticeable delay from when I turn on my player and AVR from standby. There is some delay if you power cycle the transmitter and receiver.
One interesting note: This product works normally when I turn on my microwave. In my household, turning on the microwave would slow down my Skype calls or freeze my Netflix movie watching. So the 60GHz technology in this product seems to be immune from microwave or Wi-FI.
This is an excellent HDMI cable replacement product for an in-room application.
-Wireless to replace a long HDMI cable
-Works with High Bit Rate Audio
-Not affected by WiFi or Microwave
-Wakes up quickly from Standby
The DVDO receiver requires only 1 Amp via it's micro USB connector and this alone was worth the price of admission, just about any relativity recent USB port can supply this kind of current. I didn't have to run any more power to the projector location. Just plugged in the included Micro USB cable into the projector and the other end into the DVDO receiver and it fired right up. Brilliant!
The transmitter requires 3 amps so DVDO provides a wall-wart to handle it's power demands. The whole process from start to finish took no more than 20 minutes and that includes cable management!
No perceivable video degradation at all! All my test patterns looked flawless! No audio sync issues, latency is imperceptible.
Note to fellow Amazonian's: A 60GHz signal will bounce off just about any surface, so don't expect this to work through walls or floors (remember I couldn't even get it to work through an 1/8" pane of glass) If you need that kind of solution look at something in the 5GHz band. DVDO has amazing reputation for video processing gear and this DVDO Air3 will not disappoint! Highly recommended.
