...and I couldn't be happier. What a cool little gizmo this is. The Dymo LabelManager Label Printer, Black/Gray (LM360D) arrived yesterday and I have now affixed labels to every inanimate object within my reach and any animate ones that didn't fight back, including the neighbor's toddler ("My name is Carson. I'm noisy, have few social skills, and I bite").

Since I have no aptitude for technology, I thought this would be a challenge to use, but was very pleasantly surprised. I figured it out without any help...high praise from a woman who has to call in a friend when the alarm clock needs to be re-set. The DYMO LabelManager is, as they say, easy enough for a child to operate, and I must admit that Carson was, indeed, the one who figured out how to work the label insertion thingy. Then the little bugger bit me, but to be fair, I did take his cookie when his back was turned.

The machine is so much fun to use, it's addictive. I'm wandering around looking for new things to label, which has the cats looking rather nervous. Easy-to-understand icons provide a foolproof guide for formatting, all the options are clearly shown, so you don't have to deal with that technological Mobius strip of locating and figuring out how to implement features that you don't know exist. You can print out from one to ten labels at once (all the same label) and the memory holds up to 9 addresses.

The lithium battery and recharging cable are enclosed, all you have to do is get labeling...and resist the impulse to carefully identify that left-over pork chop in the refrigerator as "left-over pork chop."

Sorry but this label printer does not print an acceptable label. I returned it after trying unsuccessfully to create a basic label with type only.

I contacted Dymo support and was told that the output of the label maker is the way it is and can't be changed.

Here's my complaint:

The printer accepts 3/4 inch labels and is designed to allow 2 rows of type on the label. I wanted to create a single label with 2 rows of basic type - just as the device claims it can.

The output of a single line of type is fine, the problem arises when you hit the carriage return and add the second line of type. Once you do that the type stretches horizontally. For example if I type a word in a single line that is 2 inches in length, this same word will be 3-3/4 inches in length once I hit the carriage return.

Using Adobe Indesign I determined that the horizontal scaling of the type on the label is almost 300%!

This is a problem for 2 reasons. First, the labels look crappy because the type is stretched. Second, a label that should only be 2 inches (normal font output) will not fit in the space I need it to due to the horizontal scaling.

So if you want a label with 2 rows of type that is readable, forget it. Find another device.

This is pretty basic font stuff. I'm actually shocked that Dymo is putting out this product that is so clearly defective in it's fundamental design. I had no idea this would even be an issue. I'm very disappointed because otherwise it seems like a fine product.

Thank you.

This labeler will be fine for most people to use to label things around the house. My wife likes the fact that it is self-contained and doesn't need a computer to operate like the other label maker we have. This one can be carried around and features a rechargeable battery so you don't have to keep replacing costly batteries. The vast majority of all labeling done here is simple, one-line, stuff and this labeler works perfectly for this purpose. The learning curve on the device was small, so we were able to get up and running very quickly.

This will not, however, be a labeler that you will want to consider if you ever want to print mailing labels or anything more than two lines. There are products for that, but this is not one of them. I have read about issues with two-line printing, although I haven't tried printing anything that wasn't single-line printing. You might or might not have issues there.

All in all, this is a fine little printer if you know what to expect coming in.

I just opened this labeler and tested it out. It was easy to set up right out of the box. I did not have to read the instructions. I'm sure I will have to play around with it a little more to figure out all the features, but so far it's great. I printed out my first label in a matter of minutes. The QWERTY keypad is nice and responsive. The labeler comes with a 3/4" cartridge. This was a perfect size for me. I also ordered a 3/8" cartridge, but I think that one is a little thin. I'm sure I can find use for it in the future.

One thing that can be improved is that the cartridge size is not automatically selected once installed. I had to manually select the cartridge size. When I tried to print a 3/8" label using the 3/4" setting it did not print correctly. There may be an automatic setting if I take time to read the instruction manual, but using the manual settings is easy enough. I give this product 4 out of 5 stars. I'm very satisfied with this product so far.
