This is not just a book for Columbus residents or sketch comedy fans. The writing in this book is universal.
Which basically means that a selected book needs to be easy to pick, and to put down.....and then come back to again at the next sitting.
This book is tremendously easy to pick up and read for page after page of dynamic anecdotes, funny stories and even a little profound pathos added in for good measure. The problem was i didn't want to stop reading, which made me rather unpopular with the lady wife, who also wanted to use the facilities from time to time. Eventually i would have to stop, and take a break just to fetch another paper roll. Hence the title.
More seriously, if you're unfamiliar with the author, i can think of no better way to remedy that shortfall than this wonderfully written and clearly heartfelt recounting of his wry and humorous take on life, the universe and all of us in it. If you live in or visit central Ohio please stop by Shadowboxlive Theater and catch Mr. Mak's comedy sketches, or one his Musicals up close and personal. You won't be disappointed. Oh, and if it's not obvious - do yourself a favor & buy this book. It is truly a joy!
P.S. I think most of us have had a Bubba Jim in our lives.
For those of us who have had the privilege of seeing some of Jimmy's shows this is quite different than his normal routine. Daddies Shouldn't Breakdance is a collection of thoughts, short stories, poems and essays that are broken down into three different sections and of which his writings have been written throughout his lifetime.
We get to see a more subtle side of Jimmy with this book as well as some crazy relationship between a not so great neighbor. This book is for everyone who wants to read something that has elements comedy, tragedy, and surrealism. We also get to see how his life has developed not only as a writer but as a husband and father as well.
Daddies Shouldn't Breakdance doesn't only remind us of why Daddies shouldn't breakdance but how through the thick of things life goes on.
