PreSchool-Grade 1-In these companion titles, Parr celebrates characteristics of mothers and fathers, and points out differences. For instance, "Some daddies teach you how to walk Some daddies teach you how to ride a skateboard"; "Some mommies fly kites Some mommies fly planes." The simple texts are accompanied by joyful, childlike illustrations done in vibrant colors, with faces that are yellow, tan, blue, purple, and other hues; figures and objects are outlined with thick, black lines. Parents of both genders are shown working at home and holding cleaning supplies. A few pages share the same text, for example, "All daddies [or mommies] like to watch you sleep!" The books close with the statement that all mommies [or daddies] "love to kiss and hug you" and "want you to be who you are!" While these titles do not overtly address single-parent households and nontraditional families, Parr allows youngsters to see the similarities that many families share by recognizing differences.

Using his signature neon palette and clean-lined, childlike art, Parr shows how mommies and daddies can drive different vehicles ("Some mommies drive minivans. Some mommies drive motorcycles"); work in different places ("Some daddies work at home. Some daddies work far away"); teach different things ("Some mommies teach you how to paint. Some mommies teach you how to play sports"), and so on. Parr's blazing colors show blue, green, and orange faces that seem multicultural. And children from single-parent homes will like that each book shows only one parent--loving, fun, and holding it all together. Todd Parr is a three-time New York Times bestselling author and illustrator of more than 50 books for children, including The Thankful Book, The Earth Book and The I LOVE YOU Book, as well as The Kindness Book and the recently released The Spring Book and The Activity Book, all from Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. A flight attendant before becoming a full-time author/illustrator, Todd’s first book, The Okay Book, was published in 1999. He is a frequent reader and fund-raiser for The Ronald McDonald House, and he also currently serves on the board of directors for the Virginia Children’s Book Festival. My daughter loves all of the Todd Parr books. She has Down Syndrome, and she loves to read and copy the pictures. The pictures are easy to look at and copy, and she makes her own little "books". She wants all of the Todd Parr books eventually! I would recommend these books to any young child, and any child with Autism or Down Syndrome, as they are very easy to read, and keep their interest.

First of all I LOVE all Todd Parr books, I’m a big fan for years as a teacher, and now more so as a mom. I bought this one for my toddler, and he loves it, he's not 2 yet, and you can see how this book gets his interest because as soon as he sees it he start saying “papa”, I highly recommend it for early childhood, since it promotes diversity emphasizing on that everybody is different and all daddies are different and that is where human beauty is found. But then again, most Todd Parr books get this important message through. I RECOMMEND ALL TODD PARR BOOKS as a mom and as an early childhood teacher

My husband, who is a really involved Dad, often bemoaned the fact that we had several "mommy" books, but it was difficult to find "daddy" books, so I ordered this one for him for Father's Day. It very matter-of-factly states all of the different kinds of activities that different kinds of daddies do, from baking cookies, to getting donuts, to working at home to working far away. It is an excellent complement to Todd Parr's "The Mommy Book," which has an equally inclusive of the many different kinds of activities that mommies can do. Ultimately, the message is that all daddies are different, and daddies do all kinds of different things, but daddies love their kids and they want them to be the best people that they can be. My three year old daughter keeps both "The Mommy Book" and "The Daddy Book" in her stash of books in her room that she can "read" all of the time.
