Although I do not keep cattle, I am starting to raise dairy sheep and goats for the benefit of my family and neighbors on a similarly-sized acreage to the author. In picking up this book, I hoped to be able to translate much of his experience and wisdom across species. His chapter on pasture management "Beyond Grass-Fed" was eye-opening, as well as his information on holistic animal medicine.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone considering dairy farming on a small-scale with any species of ruminant.
The knowledge in this book will reassure you about how to achieve your goals with dairy farming, whether for your family or as a commercial business. We can only hope that more farms in the future will utilize dairy cows for the betterment of the land, the farm, and the farmer.
The attention to details is extremely helpful.
It is a well written enjoyable read.
