It's hard to find simple tasty recipes for the dairy free folk out there so this book was a total find.
There even some recipes I copied and I lovvvveee dairy.
The reason it's for kids is because it's an informative book as well as easy to follow.
But I love it for adults of all ages!
Arrived on time and perfect condition.
Thanks so much
My young nephews have food allergies including one that needs to follow a dairy free diet so I thought this cookbook would be nice to have on hand for their family. While obviously all of the 100 recipes included in the book are dairy-free recipes, many of them are suitable for those who suffer from other allergies like eggs, nuts, soy, etc..
The book gives provides some good info for those people who might be new to dairy free eating. It gives a decent overview of what it means as well as stressing the importance to read the ingredients on food items rather than just relying on what is marketed on the label. The book also mentions what are some key pantry items to have in your kitchen as well as cooking equipment that comes in handy.
The different recipe categories include Plant-based Milks, Breakfasts and Smoothies, Soups and Salads, Sides and Snacks, Vegetarian and Vegan Mains, Seafood, Poultry. Pork and Beef, Desserts, and Staples, Sauces, and Dressings. Each recipe mentions if it is safe to consume if you suffer from other food allergies. Each recipe includes the estimated prep and cooking time with about half of the dishes taking 30 minutes or less to prepare. Most of the dishes serve 4 people. I will admit to side eyeing the Honey Mustard Chicken Wing recipe as I don't consider 8-10 wings with 2 wings per serving much food per person for a main dish. Most of the other serving sizes for the other recipes seem more reasonable.
One thing that impressed me about this cookbook is it doesn't rely so heavy on having to buy dairy-free products like dairy-free cheese for every recipe. Sure there are some recipes where you might need to include a dairy free milk or other dairy-free product, but definitely the majority of the ingredients are just common ingredients that most people will have on hand. So if you are not a huge fan of some of the dairy free food products on the market, there are plenty of other recipes in this book that don't rely on those types of ingredients.
There is a decent variety of recipes included but I do think many of them are geared towards more adventurous kid eaters. I'm keeping my nephews that are ages 6 and under in mind and I just don't think at this stage they would be interested in something like Eggplant Meatballs or Cream Cheese, Spinach, and Cucumber Pinwheels. However, there are quite a few recipes geared towards the picky eaters like Chicken Nuggets and Sloppy Joes. In my opinion any cookbook I purchase that I find at least 1 or 2 recipes that are liked by all and can be prepared on at least a semi-regular basis, is a decent book to have on hand. I think this book definitely has enough of a variety that it's worth having in any home that follows a dairy free diet. Even though it is more marketed for families with kids, food is food and the recipes can certainly be enjoyed by eaters of just about any age.
The book goes a little overboard if you’re just looking for dairy free recipes as it includes a lot of vegan, nut-free, soy free and other this&that free. I was looking for DAIRY free. Period. Not that the other recipes can’t be palatable and tasty, it’s just that they’re not what I was in the market for when I bought this book.
The book starts with breakfast with the smoothies that use alternate “milk” ingredients. There’s a pretty good Baked Cornflake-crusted Orange Juice French Toast Stick recipe that is intriguing. In the Soups & Salads section I tried the Lentil and Bacon soup and it’s quite good.
I liked most sections with the exception of the Seafood that seemed to be lacking in knowledge of seafood preparation. The Shrimp and Avocado Ceviche is done on the stovetop. Gasp!
Overall, the book is OK. I think that most of the recipes can have the kids involved in the actual preparation which, in my estimation, is a must. I think most are tasty. My big problem is that the overall style and message of the book is its covert “Be Vegan” propaganda mission. Maybe I’m just to cynical.

Really!?… how to make glazed carrots or oatmeal with some nuts? I was expecting to find great recipies specific to toddlers…. Snacks and meals to take to daycare… On the run meals.
This cookbook was a total disappointment.
