I HAVE CHANGED MY REVIEW TO TWO STARS........FOR ONE REASON: JUST AS THE STORY STARTED TO PICK UP.....IT STOPPED. PRACTICALLY IN THE MIDDLE OF A SENTENCE. READING ALONG AND POOF, DONE! VERY BAD PLAY WHOEVER THOUGHT THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA.
It was very unpredictable which is a good thing if you are an avid reader like me as it's difficult for a story to keep me in suspense the way this one did.
Oh, and incase you didn't already know...it's her debut novel which is hard to believe! And what a debut it was! Honestly, I cannot say enough about not only the story, but Ms. Summer's writing style and way with words. Everything flowed so effortlessly it seemed.
I admittedly put the book down a couple times because I was going to fast and didn't want it to end.
While some questions I had were answered, many were not and I am dying to get my hands on book two to find out more about this amazing world and characters which Ms. Summer has created. I want...no wait, I NEED more!
If you are going to take a chance on a new author, this is the one to do it with!
Book two thankfully fills in on all the questions fairly quickly or I wouldn't have continued too read.
Heroine for me was too forgiving or better person. Accepting non answers to 100 of questions from all whose in her life. The storyline is what kept me reading and needing the questions answered. Lots of wholes in story that will be filled in book two.
This is an awesome read. Characters are well written, and I at the end I was like" ugh no.....".
Take a chance I know you will like this story... off to read the 2nd book!!
The chemistry between Sophie and Ash….and Sophie and Ren was pretty decent. Yes, unfortunately we have the makings (not exactly there yet…) for a love triangle here. I have my ‘side’ but I will keep that to myself for now.
Not So Much: As previously mentioned, this book is not too forthcoming with the information. I was just as frustrated as Sophie about this, but mostly because it caused some of the story to just not make sense, or even flow very well. Keeping information so far under wraps that nearly the entire book is us discovering Sophie’s abilities, her training, and her internally swooning – it really just could have used a little more movement. There were things happening, lies that were being told (though not very well at times) and plots forming; however we never really figured out the reasons behind some of these things. I have my suspicions on a few of them…but no confirmation. That is not to say the book wasn’t without its action, and once there was some information starting to get shared, the book picked up pace considerably. It was just that I had to wait until the final 3/4ths of the novel for that to really happen.
I did enjoy the concept of this story, it was a unique idea with a lot of potential. I will be interested to see what more can be made of it as the series progresses. This book is clean, very YA appropriate.

As a 17 year old, Sophia was very independent and I think that was due to the fact that she had lived by herself for quite a few years. When she met Ren and Ash she was like every hormonal teenager and I was shocked that she did not scream when they appeared in her bedroom. As her powers were revealed she handled it very well, as the stronger she got and as more of her purpose was revealed, she was even more determined to do her best. The two men in her life were completely different. Ren was all serious and had a sadistic feel to him whilst Ash was all flirty and fun loving, Despite their differences, when Sophia was in danger they both were there to protect her.
I loved that no-one would give Sophia the complete story, only snippets of what she need to know and as a teenager you could feel Sophia’s frustration, from a reader’s perspective this added mystery to the story as I was always second guessing the author and did not know what to expect. The story flowed easily and the suspension was building to the final scene. With more of her history explained at the end it leads nicely into book 2. This is perfect for young teenager and adults alike. A good start to a fantasy series with a difference
This is a really fascinating read…the characters are all complex with depth…. I love it when a character has special powers but has been kept in the dark about them by a protective family and friends…. Sophie is such a strong character considering the bewildering magical world she discovers and the men who are there to assist, train and ultimately navigate her through this paranormal universe are all intriguing…
This was a thrilling and magical read…. there is a war brewing and Sophie is an essential element in determining the outcome….I am now invested in the lives of these characters and will definitely be reading the next instalment…. I received a copy of this book through the Quirky Blind Date with a Book in exchange for a fair and honest review.....
