Blog postWhen it comes to marketing your book, there's a lot of different advice out there and it can be hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. Unless you're a full-time author, there's only so many hours in the day to balance writing, editing, publishing, and marketing. It helps to know if what you're doing has tangible results that make it worth your time.
In terms of marketing, everything you do is going to be broken down into two categories:

Blog postHey there! Remember me?
The sites gone a little dark since the last post, where I released the first chapter of Shepherds: Origins and that's 100% on me.
Despite appearances, there's been quite a lot of things happening in the background that I never got around to posting about properly, but now my schedule has somewhat freed up, it's time to do a massive catchup post!
First up:

Blog postThis is an excerpt of the first chapter of Shepherds: Origins, a prequel to Shepherds: Awakening. It's still a work in progress and the content may change as it goes through the editorial process.
Origins takes place long before Awakening and follows the story of Aden and Lugh, and how Shades came to be.
Aden “It’s time.”

Blog postThis site's been a bit quiet since the release of Shepherds: Awakening. I actually have a few technical blog posts ready to go; I just need to find the time to actually finish up the code and package everything so it's easy to use.
In terms of writing, I'm deep into my second book, tentatively titled Shepherds: Origins. It was originally planned as a short novelette on the origins of Shepherds and where Shades come from, but the more I planned it out, the more interested it became and4 years ago Read more -
Blog postIn a previous blog post I talked about a tool that I use to help patch the OPF file in an EPUB so it can be used better with a MOBI (to be clear, you can use the default no problem, I just wanted to be able to add extra entries to the nav and optionally remove the cover).
With this post, I wanted to cover how I use that tool in my build chain so that I can automatically produce an EPUB, a PDF, and a MOBI version of my book any time I make an edit. By automating all of this, I make my5 years ago Read more -
Blog postDo you know what's great? Automating things. When I was writing Shepherds, one of the things I wanted to get sorted was automating the whole build process, so that if I made a change, I could build PDF, EPUB, and MOBI files without tinkering with all the bits in between. I'll talk about that whole process in the next blog post.
This one is a specific step in that process; patching the OPF file.

Blog postMailChimp is great. If you need to have an email list for whatever reason, its features and ease of use make it a no-brainer. It's also free for up to 2000 subscribers, so its even better when you're starting out and every penny counts.
One of the downsides of MailChimp is that, while it's great for sending emails and creating a list of subscribers, it's not really made for managing subscribers.
Ever put your email into a site and get faced with something like this?

Blog postI released my first book, Shepherds: Awakening on Amazon Kindle and paperback just over one month ago, and the last 30 days or so have been pretty hectic in learning everything that goes along with releasing and marketing a book.
And I still only feel like I've gotten my fingertips wet.
So you don't make the same mistakes that I made, here's a big ole list of Things I Wish I Knew Before Starting.

Jack and his partner, Detective Harry Gannon, are sent through time to save the man who saved the coffee crop. Failure in their mission would end in tragedy: a world without coffee. Can they track down the cause in time to save coffee, and life as we know it, or will the world be forced to survive drinking tea?
Deep Echoes by RM Alexander writing as Melody Ash -
Caitlin Benoit is a no holds barred, kick butt, don't-cover-the-ugly-parts archeologist with a weak spot for the downtrodden in eras past.
