Excerpt from Damnation:
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Tina asked.
Jessica forced herself to keep up her steady, confident stride. She nodded firmly. "I want to do this."
I need to do this was more like it, but pride was about the only thing she had left.
Tina was looking at her, but Jessica kept walking down the sidewalk in this dusty western town, pretending not to notice. "Is that the place?"
"That's it," Tina replied, waving to the two-story building. "Blue Moon Saloon. The new guys only took it over a month ago."
Jessica drew in a long breath and slowed to look it over. She couldn't have conjured anything more Wild West out of her imagination if she'd tried. The whole historic center of the old town was like that -- a high altitude frontier town, barely dragged into modern times.
"Perfect location, just a block off Whiskey Row." Tina nodded in pride.
Her inner wolf whined. I like home better. Yes, well, home was gone, and she could never go back to that place.
Want my mate, the beast whimpered.
Yeah, well. He didn't want us. When would the stupid beast get that through its head?
Anger worked better than the grief that welled up every time she thought of that part of her past, so she hung on to it for the time being. Combed her long brown hair back and stood at her full five-foot-eight. She needed this job, damn it. She'd get it.
"You can stay in the apartment upstairs," Tina said. "If you're sure you don't want to stay with us. We do have the space, you know."
"This will be fine," Jess said, trying to keep doubt out of her voice.
"It will need some work..." Tina warned.
Jessica wondered if she meant the saloon, the apartment, or the whole new life she faced.
"...and you'll have to share a bathroom with the guys..."
That was the other unknown in the equation. She'd have to live under the same roof as her new bosses. Who were the two men running the place, anyway?
"They're good guys," Tina added quickly. "Hard-working. Honest."
She sure hoped so.
"...a little rough around the edges, maybe..."
She pictured natty beards, worn jeans, Western drawls.
"...but I'm sure they'll be fine. And they can really use your help."
That was another thing. Everything Tina didn't say suggested the saloon wasn't exactly off to a stellar start. What exactly was she getting herself into here?
Jessica took a last, deep breath and followed Tina through the saloon doors -- a pair of real saloon doors that swung both ways -- feeling as if she were leaping into a deep, murky pool.
At first, she couldn't see anything, but as her eyes adjusted from the glare of the sun to the dim interior, she could make out the trappings of the saloon. Four round poker tables stood in the middle with booths on each side. A weathered sign on the right read, Check your guns at the door, and it was hard to tell whether the message was a gag or not. Otherwise, the walls were decorated with black-and-white scenes of the frontier town in days gone by -- all covered with enough dust and grime to suggest that the new management hadn't changed the decor. Or the menu, judging by the faded chicken-scratch on the chalkboard by the front door.
"Hello?" Tina called. Her voice echoed down a narrow hallway that lead to a back room.
"Coming," a voice came from out of sight.
Jessica's wolf perked its ears. Froze. Practically pointed like a god damn hunting dog, too. She gave it a mental swat, but the beast didn't budge. What the hell was that about?
"Be right there," a second voice came. A deep, rumbly voice, like that of a bear roused from his den.
Her wolf soul had been slumbering for most of the morning, but now, it jumped up and down, waving its tail frantically in a crazy cocktail of mixed emotions. Excitement with a splash of hope, a touch of arousal, and a whole lot of fear, clinking around like a couple of ice cubes in a whiskey glass.
What? She wanted to scream at her wolf. What?
Two square-shouldered forms stepped out of the shadows of the hallway, one half a step ahead of the other. Big, burly men who moved like bulldozers, absolutely confident that any living thing would back the hell out of their way.
Short, sandy hair. Short, scruffy stubble. Dark, wary eyes. Huge, steely hands permanently clenched into fists. Two men who couldn't be anything but brothers.
A warm rush of adrenaline exploded inside her and bounced around her veins, and her mind whirled. Not possible. It couldn't be...
Part of her wanted to flee; the other half wanted to leap into an embrace. The man in front looked permanently stern, while the one behind smiled. At least, he did until Tina started the introductions. "Jessica Macks, meet--"
"Simon," Jessica blurted, looking over the shoulder of the first man toward the second.
The man she'd never stopped loving, no matter how hard she tried. The bear shifter who still inhabited her dreams, even after all this time.
Mate! Her wolf whimpered joyously. Mine! Alive!
Blue eyes the color of the coldest, clearest alpine lake locked on hers and refused to let go.
"Jessica," he murmured, too low for human ears.
"This..." she stammered at the man who'd pretended to love her, then cast her aside. "This will never work."

Designation: Book One of Series, Standalone Paranormal Romance, No Cliffhanger, HEA
Reading Platform: Kindle & Audiobook Editions
My Rating: FIVE DIVINELY ENTERTAINING STARS*****
I adore paranormal romance, and no one does it better than Anna Lowe! I've been a fan of Lowe's work for several years and enjoy everything she writes, but Damnation and the Blue Moon Saloon Series have become my new favorites! But I'm not the only one who loves it. Damnation was voted Best Shifter Book for 2016 by Reality Bites Magazine. Wow! And yes, it's that good! I became officially hooked two years ago after reading Desert Moon, the first release in Lowe's The Wolves of Twin Moon Ranch Series and have followed her work since. I've been a lover of the written word for over 60 years and during that time, I've read an incalculable number of books, written by a diverse collection of talented authors. So when I say Anna Lowe is one of my favorites, that's quite a recommendation. It's a little hard to explain but I'll try. Lowe is what I like to call a triple threat. lol... I know, it sounds a little ominous but it's really not. You see, some authors are stronger in certain aspects of the process than others. They may have a great idea for a book or series but have difficulties developing the story and translating their thoughts to written words, while some may be good with words and story development but lack creativity and ideas. Lowe can create it, develop it, and write it, but Lowe's talent doesn't stop there. She's not only a truly gifted storyteller and skilled wordsmith, she's also one of the most reliable authors in the romance genre today, consistently penning unique and highly imaginative storylines, set in vividly depicted worlds, populated with fascinating characters who will surely capture your imagination as well as your heart. Lowe's books are all well crafted and well edited with beautiful covers. And Damnation is no exception! In addition to having my nose stuck in a book for a few hours every day, I frequently listen to audiobooks and Damnation was available so, naturally, I snagged the Audible version as well. There's nothing like listening to the characters of a story come to life through the voice of a talented narrator and I truly enjoy the artist Lowe uses for her books. Kelsey Osborne does a fabulous job and has quickly become one of my favorites. Osborne's reading and commentary skills are exceptional, enhanced by her pleasing pitch, soothing dulcet tone, delightful and sometimes amusing voice inflections, rhythmic effortless cadence, and always correct pronunciations. But as usual I digress, especially when I talk about my favorite authors, so let's discuss a few details about the story itself.
Damnation is an emotionally gripping, fast-paced, well-crafted second chance paranormal romance filled to the brim with pulse-pounding danger, agonizing drama, malevolent enemies, heart-wrenching angst, fiery passion, steamy sex, dreamy romance and laugh-out-loud humor. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with his and her perspectives. The dialogue is smart, snappy, well executed and flows effortlessly. But hands down, my favorite component of every Lowe story is her cast of relatable characters. I found them to be intriguing, engaging, well developed, and at times, hilarious. I was immediately smitten with the two protagonists, beautiful, plucky she-wolf Jessica 'Jess' Macks and handsome, burly bear-shifter Simon Voss. These two could not have been more different but complemented each other perfectly, and together were an absolute riot. My emotions ran the full gambit while reading this story. I sniffed, snorted, giggled, sobbed and raged through the entire book. And there were quite a few times, I wanted to give Simon and Jess a swift kick in the butt but by the end, I was happy, satisfied and well entertained. Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! Would I recommend it? You bet and I am but for adult readers only since it does contain some steamy, dreamy love scenes, however, I highly recommend the muffins for all ages! They're so yummy! Will I read this author again? Absolutely! I've already purchased Temptation, the second book of the series, and can hardly wait to dive in! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
Two unlikely lovers thrown together by chance, divided by obligation, haunted by loss, reunited by fate.... but will destiny grant them the second chance they each so desperately desire? We'll see! No spoilers from me but I will say this... A beautiful, strong but heartbroken she-wolf and her sister on the run for their lives after losing their entire family in an attack by rogue wolves, now urgently seeking a place to belong and call home-check! A handsome, determined bear shifter and his brother, both tortured by past failures and mistakes, desperately seeking a second chance-check! Heinous enemies with evil machinations-check! Danger, drama, heartache, loss, and angst-check! Fiery passion, steamy sex, sweet romance, a sprinkling of humor, and a heartwarming second chance at love- you bet! That and a whole lot more, including a very important lesson.... Bad guys don't always wear black, especially when he's a purist vigilante named Whyte!

I was expecting this to be just another easy read, but I really enjoyed it. Honestly, the plot isn’t anything special so I think my enjoyment came purely from the way in which it was written. I felt a connection to all the characters and am looking forward to seeing what happens next in this series. I’m not overly keen on second chance novels but this one is pretty sweet and stems more from a misunderstanding, which is much more forgivable. Although the story is rather short, we do get to see Jessica begin to come back out of shell once she starts to feel more secure in her new home. The relationship between both sets of siblings is nice to see. I like the fact that they have both come together to support one another when things go bad. Even fictional characters need a good support system sometime. If I had to give a negative, it’s that I would have liked for the book to be longer, but despite the length, it didn’t feel unfinished or rushed as many shorter novels do.
Sexual content: Infrequent
This is a definite must read!!!!!
Jessie has done nothing wrong but been left by her unmated mate. She has suffered 3 years of hurt and then things get worse. Her pack is wiped out by purist rogues that only her and her sister Janna escaped from.
Jess believes she could have done more to help her pack and her guilt at not fighting enough, on top of not being wanted by her mate and living on the run has taken her from being a feisty she wolf to a shadow of herself.
Simon thought he was doing the right thing in hurting Jessie and turning her away and making her hate him. What a ninny.
Why do males not understand that talking can solve so much. IF Simon had told Jessie what was going on, IF he had not hurt her so bad, they may have been able to be together and their respective pack and clans may have been able to help and protect each other from the rogues. Big IF I know.
All in all a very enjoyable read with a good storyline that is leading to a series of books for some of the other lovely characters we meet in this book.
Really want Soren to have his HEA.
This is my honest review of this book.
Jess and her sister Janna are two she wolves who have been running since their small pack was destroyed by a rogue wolf pack.
Simon and Soren are two bear shifters whose pack was also destroyed by the rogue wolf pack.
Both the sisters and the brothers felt a pull to come to this town in Arizona unbeknownst to each other.
But Simon and Jess have a secret history and when they meet Jess pulls her hatred to the fore.
A brilliant start to a new series filled with action and passion.
