Fantastic! A terrific start to a new series.
Fantastic! A terrific start to a new series. Vampires have come forward and claimed their space in our world. Along with them, a new problem: human addiction to vampire blood, AKA Crimson Rush. Children are being turned into vampires to supply the new drug of choice, leaving social workers to try to clean up the mess of broken homes and child abuse. Nicole, having been a foster child herself, is passionate about saving these kids and finding safe homes for them. Damon and his league of Vampire Warriors have been brought in to teach Nicole and her coworkers how to defend themselves since their jobs are getting more and more dangerous. Nicole is doing too good a job at saving these kids and interrupting the blood trade, so a hit is taken out on her life. Damon and his friends now must find out who wants her dead.

Nicole may be a tiny woman, but she is full of passion and fire. She is always thinking of others and lets nothing stand in the way of protecting "her" kids. Damon is instantly drawn to her with a need to protect her. He knows she is his mate, but he refuses to claim her. I really enjoyed watching the other vampires try to force Damon to admit his feeling for Nicole by flirting with her. I had quite a few laughs at his expense.

I can't say enough how much I enjoyed this book and eagerly await the next in the series.

Good little read.

Terrific characters and a reasonably good plot. All the things required for a good story. Just thinking about it, I want to read book two, and I probably will.

The only thing that has let me, the reader down, and therefore Ms. Gableman, is the editing.

The spellchecking has been done, but where the word needed to be corrected to say 'has' for example, it's been corrected to had. This seems to be standard throughout the book. To give you a more exact sample of what I mean, here is a tiny extract including one of those spellchecking anomalies: "Is that really want you want?" said Damon. It is enough to give one pause.

Because I enjoyed the book so much, I got halfway through the book when I made this note: Editing leaves a lot to be desired. Spelling errors pulling me out of the story, words missing also. Lack of punctuation has me re-reading sentences from time to time.

That later was so that I could make sense of the sentence that I had just read.

Truth be told, if the editing had been done correctly, I would have rated this as a four star book. It was definitely a four star story. I'm looking forward to reading the next book.

OMG..Teresa Gableman is my new favorite author! This is my first time giving a review so forgive me if I don't make any sense here. Anyways...I just finished reading Damon's book and can't wait to start on Jared's book. I read most of the reviews on here before buying it (even though it was only $0.99..I still wanted to make sure I was getting my penny's worth! LOL). where to start? My brain is so scattered right now. I just loved the storyline and how the herione wasn't afraid to express her feelings or fight it for that matter. I am SOOOO TIRED of reading about the hero & herione fighting their feelings for each other. Seriously, those relationships frustrate me and make me want to through my kindle at the wall sometimes! I loved everything about the book from the flow of the story to the relationship between the Damon and Nicole and all the other characters. I have to agree with one of the reviewers in that I connected with Nicole more than I did Damon. She was the perfect herione to me which rarely happens. Usually, it's the herione that upsets me the most in the books. Point is, buy the book! It's worth the money and if you don't like it then there's something wrong with you! Haha..just kidding..if you don't like it then you've only lost $0.99 ok. No biggie. I loved the book. I can't wait to continue the series and look forward to more from Teresa Gableman!

When I chose this book as a "bridge book" (something to bridge the gap between new releases from my favorite authors), I focused on the "bad" reviews to see if what was considered "bad" was bad enough to deter me from spending 99¢ on it. What I found were comments about bad grammar and bad writing making it impossible to enjoy the story. As a college English instructor, I see "bad" grammar and writing on a daily basis, and I can say with all honesty the writing in this book isn't THAT bad. Yes, there are some mistakes, but they aren't overwhelming, and they don't detract from the plot of the book which is pretty good. Frankly, I read these types of books for ENJOYMENT; I do enough "grammar checking" in my everyday life, so I try to avoid doing it when I am off the clock. If a few missed commas or awkward word choices send you into a cold sweat and destroy your enjoyment of a fantasy novel, then you may want to seek therapy for that, and you will want to avoid this novel. (In most cases, an author would have an editor to catch those errors, but no one is perfect.)

Now, why can't I give this book a higher-starred review? (Truthfully, I'd rank it a 3.75, but I rounded up.) It comes down to character development and world building. There is very little of either, and that's disappointing because the premise of this novel is promising. I always love to see the big, strong Warrior and children; it makes them even hotter to me. The characters are just a bit flat with the exception of the heroine, Nicole, who is spunky and likeable. We get very little information about the hero, Damon. Actually, I found myself l preferring Jared because we are given more insight into his personality (so I may have to get his book ). Damon doesn't seem to have one.

Note: I am reviewing eight books. Each review will have cut/paste inserts. I will not write spoilers.

The warriors are alpha vampires with an exaggerated protective mode for the women in their care. All the warriors have a tendency to go ballistic when their specific mates are threatened, even minutely.

They are the Vampire Council Warriors. Brothers in deed to fight against evil. They have operated for centuries to capture, contain, and dispense justice to renegade vampires. Now, the vampire race has declared themselves. They no longer live in secret, but actively live dispersed within human society. This has made the VC Warriors visible to the public, making their jobs more difficult.

The books have strong personality profiles and interaction between the different warriors. It is fun to read the comradery between them. It is also fun to read the bonding between the women as each book brings in a new mate.

Each book has a complete story. Each book leads to the next without cliff hangers. The first question I ask when reviewing books is if I enjoyed them. Yes, I did. These are feel good, happy book with quirky funny things, and steamy sexual situations.

This is the first book of a warrior protector series. Damon is a total hottie, kick-ass warrior. He has a serious, alpha personality. He is there to train humans in the Special Family Service Department on how to protect themselves in a world gone crazy with renegade vampires and humans using children to supply the blood crave.

Nicole is one of the children service workers trying to place human and vampire children into safe homes. She puts herself at risk daily to do everything in her power to ensure her children are safe. Not an easy task in a world ruled by greed and fear.
