I used DampRid for years to reduce the humidity in my apartment, and I recommend it, but not with this dispenser. I bought two of these, and after the first use, I emptied the reservoirs and put new packets in the top. The second time around the liquid leaked out the air vents in the top and made a puddle on the floor. Ew.

I replaced them with standard DampRid bucket-type dispensers (DampRid FG60 Refillable Moisture Absorber, 2-Pack). They're not as designy looking, but they work. Don't use these.

Have been using this about a year and it does what they say. It's easy to use. Just put the refill pack in the container. When the bottom is full of water and refill pack is empty and brown, dispose of the water and toss out refill pack and put in a new pack. Easy and it does the job.

Bought 3 of these for my basement and set them within feet of one another. One of them works fine and is pulling moisture from the air, but the other 2 have clogged the drain vents on the unit with this hard, crystal substance which simply cannot be removed. Both of these units are ruined and only drained a few ounces of water out of the air before they stopped working. I will be getting a refund from Amazon. I called the Damp Rid # and all I get is voicemail.

BEWARE! Do not buy this product and support such a terrible design flaw.

I'm not going to lie -- I only purchased this product b/c the reviews seemed to be so good and it was as inexpensive as it was.
Much to my delight, it works WONDERFULLY. Think I'll be buying others for my basement & closets.

I purchased these after searching on Amazon for a solution to our humidity problem. Our entire house is humid because of where we live, but it gets really bad when it is raining and after the rains, our tile floors become slick because of the humidity. I purchased these for the smaller bedrooms in our house and they are AH-MAY-ZING!!!!! I've had them in our house for about a week and they are pulling water out of the air like crazy. The floors no longer feel slick and they are soaking up all of the moisture like a sponge.

I live in Southern FL. Thought this would be an ideal product. Far from it. I had both small containers and "large-room" containers. Original product out of the box works fine. BUT...and I followed the directions closely on the back of the refill boxes....refills NEVER work the same. I tried several refills. All you get in the small canisters (that use the refills in a resealable plastic bag) after a day or two is a hard, brownish clumb of junk that doesn't absorb anything. And in the "large-room" containers, the packets from the refill box turned into organish-gooey gel that dripped out of the container and all over the carpet and floor where I had them. It took me *several* hard scrubbings to get the thick, sticky gooey stuff off the tile floor, and many more to scrub it out of the carpet. Whatever is in this stuff you have to also scrub off your skin; it causes irritation, and again, is just plain sticky....it goes everywhere. If you use this product DO NOT LET IT DRIP ON THE FLOOR and wash your hands after using it!! I have since switched to rice....more economical and doens't produce some messy, unhealthy substance.( I had concerns at the onset that it can ONLY be poured down the toilet. What does that say?) I would NOT recommend this product to anyone.

We have a small room converted to an office, on the second story of our house. The room does not have the best circulation, and in the middle of the summer (hot and humid days) it got really damp feeling in there.

Based on a recommendation from a Home Depot associate, decided to give DampRid a try -- and have been very happy ever since. We put the container in the room, and about every few weeks or so we dump out more than a cup full of water down the drain. The refills do the same job that the original pack did, and the room feels and smells much better now.

Guess we will have to figure out why the issue occurs (maybe need to replace the 13 year old windows seals?), but until then these do the job. Have been using for about 18 months now and it is easy to use and works. followed the directions and have not had any mess whatsoever... not even sure how it could be messy, unless you were to knock it over before emptying or something.

Get it if you need to get rid of moisture in the air.

I'm pretty happy with this product. It does require close monitoring, thus, you've got to watch the baby.
Negative issues will most likely arise if method for use is: set & forget

On carpet, I line a small box with plastic to place the system in.
Every couple of days, a thorough inspection is done to see if dark or brown nasty has accumulated on absorption bag. (This hasn't happened yet.)
When water is nearly up to the Discard level, water is poured out, absorption bag is put in a plastic liner and tossed in the trash.
Vents are wiped off inside and out, inside is dried with a hair dryer for a few seconds, and unit is left to sit for a few hours to completely dry, before refilling and placed out again.

This is a good option when expense and noise preclude investment in a dehumidifier. Although, how much moisture you need to get rid of, is the bottom line.
When factoring in the refill bags expense, more $$$ would be spent on initial cost, plus monthly electric usage for a dehumidifier.
For me, noise in the bedroom is simply not an option. In the master bathroom, a convenient unused electrical outlet is not available.
