So, I really don't need a freezer compartment. As a matter of fact, unless you absolutely have to have a freezer compartment, my experience with mini-fridges with freezer compartments might make you want to consider getting a standalone freezer. I started out 4 years ago with an Igloo 3.2 cu ft mini-fridge with freezer. I did buy it used from a friend. After a month of use, the entire freezer compartment was froze shut and anything left in the refrigerator section, for more than 2 days, would be froze solid. I didn't fool with trying to fix it since it was used and figured it was having compressor problems. I then replaced it with a brand new Frigidaire 4.3 cu ft model. It was highly-rated and worked fine for about 6 months. Then one day I reached in to get a Dr. Enuf, it was froze solid. The next day, two more had froze and burst while I was at work. Admittedly, it was a user problem. The freezer compartment's door wasn't closed solidly, but I hadn't used the freezer. Never figured out how that happened. I cleaned it up, started over, made sure the freezer was closed. After three months of no problems, the back of the interior refrigerator area started developing ice on it. I scraped it all out. Go back a week later and the ice is back. I noticed the door seal on the refrigerator area was not shutting all the way. The cost to replace it was going to be around fifty dollars. That's when I started looking at this Danby mini-refrigerator.
I decided to order it as a late Christmas gift for myself. I really liked the fact that it's an all-refrigerator. The freezer compartment on my previous one took up a lot more space than a 0.8 cu ft freezer should take up. The first thing I did with this Danby was remove the shelves and reorder them. I lowered the top shelf, one notch. Then lowered the second shelf, one notch. Then just removed the third half shelf. That opened up the bottom of the inside to be used to sit my favorite 700ml bottles of Fiji. The top shelf has enough clearance to stand Evian liters. The middle shelf can hold 10 bottles laid down. The door can hold up to 16 cans, including 8 in the can holders. I honestly can get at least double the bottles/cans in this as I could the bigger 4.3 cu ft Frigidaire. I took the picture a few days ago, but also have the full list of what all I was able to fit in it.
Top shelf - A 4 pack of Mountain Valley Springs (333ml bottles), a 4 pack of Dr. Enuf bottles, 4 Ale 81 bottles with a little room left to spare.
Middle shelf - 10 (591ml bottles) of Eternal Spring Water laying down.
Bottom shelf - 11 (700ml bottles of Fiji)
In Door - 8 can drinks in can holders (much nicer than the drop-down can holders in most of these mini-fridges), a liter of Evian (believe you could put a 2-liter in there) 2 more cans in the small cut-out section and another 5-6 cans in the top cut-out of the door.
I could put the drinks listed above on "top shelf" in the 4.3 cu ft Frigidaire and maybe 2 Evian liters on the main shelf in it. Then 1/4 of its space was taken up by the freezer section at the top and another 1/4 of its space was taken up at the bottom with a "crisper" drawer. I'm sure the crisper worked, but it was no use for drinks since it didn't get them cold enough.
Every bit of this Danby can be used. The drinks I've had from it so far have all been cold, I would even say as cold as our big Maytag PowerCold refrigerator in our kitchen. It's function-ability is far greater for my needs than either of the mini-fridges I've tried.
On top of the usefulness, this is a really nice-looking mini-fridge. The logo design has a vintage-retro look to it and if you look at the fridge enough it kind of looks like an aluminum drink can. It's also smaller than Frigidaire it replaced, about 3.5 inches smaller in width and depth. Oh and the seal on the inside of the door is about an inch lower than on other brands. I believe that will make it less likely to start allowing air in like the Frigidaire model did. It's also very quiet. My computer is roughly 8-10 ft from it, but I can't hear it at all. I can barely hear it when I open the door on it to get a drink. It's one of the easiest five star reviews I've ever posted. I really can't think of anything I would change.
