The Danby dishwasher is performing tremendously well.
Our dishwasher left detergent residue and never drained properly, this one is performing perfectly. No more second guessing!!
We also wanted to support Danby because of the charitable nature of the CEO. He does in extremely good deeds like helping refugees find work at his wharehouse and provides for them in Their greatest time of need.
5 stars for a great product, and feels good Everytime I run a load, I think of all the good Danby does!!!
:) :) :) :)
Depending on what types of dishes you are going to do, it can pack a lot... or not so much. For my first load, I packed the top filled with dirty glass ball jars, and the smallest glass containers on the white plastic grate. (I could fit up to 18 different sized jars on the top shelf alone)
However, my regular dish loads are much different. If I cook everyday, I cook with two pots and two pans. In order to clean everything daily, I would have to run two dish loads a day just because of the clunky nature of the pots and pans (with their handles) I use. Instead, we use paper plates and opt to clean pots, silverware, cups and awkward dishware in the machine. My lunch containers are ball jars, and I can usually slip them in under the plastic grate thing on the top shelf. If you hand wash pots and pans, your dishware should fit easily.
The silverware basket is also something to consider with regards to space. I assume it is standard size, and that translates to big and clunky considering this is a compact machine. Luckily, you can take it apart and use one side. The slotted top even comes out if you want to put other utensils there. Still, at half size, you end up with a thin narrow silverware basket which can still be awkward. If you fit everything just right, the half-sized silverware basket will fit horizontally, close to the door, on the lower rack. This doesn't always work for me. So, I am ordering a smaller silverware to I can shove it in a corner somewhere while still being able to fit my pans.
This depends on the dishwasher detergent being used, placement of the dishes, and items being cleaned.
I used cascade complete powder for my second and third runs and was frustrated because it didn't work as well as the GreatValue (Walmart brand) packet I used on the first run. I have read that the cascade platinum packets work the best, but I haven't tried them. When I run out of my current packets, I will start using those. I'll keep the loose powder I have left for the prewash.
No matter what detergent I used, there are some items that just wouldn't get clean unless they were placed a certain way. My ladles didn't get clean unless I had them reclining and faced down. I had tall mason jars that didn't like to get clean unless they were in a specific spot on the top shelf (They were so tall that they barely fit in on the top shelf, and couldn't fit in the middle.).
Also, somethings were harder to clean than others. RICE and quinoa was very hard to clean off of spoons and dishes and they often redeposited on other things. So clear your dishes of rice and quinoa debris before placing in the dishwasher. If you rest refillable K-cup on the grate, expect to see coffee grinds on cups and other dishes on the top shelf.
In general, this dishwasher does a great job cleaning my dishes. since having it, I've spent less time doing dishes, and more time cooking healthier meals. Plus, I use fewer disposable containers (sandwich bags and etc.) for lunches.
Ease of Use:
Depends. I can roll it into place and hook everything up very easily. But, I had a few specific hardships with this machine to start. I had a lot of trouble attaching the faucet adapter onto the sink. I would attach the adapter and then the hose. Then when I turned the faucet on, it shot right off, adapter and all. I did this several times, (wrench didn't work) until I switched one of the rubber gaskets for a thinner one. The end result is that it leaks when the hose is attached and the water is on. There is no turning it on and then going to sleep for me. I have to be there to turn it off at the end. Since I affixed the adapter permanently, I cannot use my attachable PUR water filter. I use a pitcher water filter system instead.
The top rack sticks from time to time.
The prewash section is just a depression on the outside of the detergent door. Just throw the detergent on the bottom of the diswasher if you use loose powder, because that is what it does once you close the dishwasher door. I remember looking everywhere for this mystical prewash detergent "bin." When I found it, I almost rolled my eyes.
The tricksiest bit is when you decide you want to use the water bypass, or (like I do) the spray hose and you accidentally turn the water off after. If the dishwasher needs water and you have the faucet on the off position, it will express its anger in a series of beeps and then start drying your dishes. Finally, it will get amnesia (if you run to turn the faucet on) forgetting it ever started washing dishes. Yes, you will have to press the power button and start over.
Additional Tip: Get an "awkward items" basket. This is great for my mason jar lids (since I don't boil them), Avacado slicer, and other things that just don't fit in the silverware basket but are too small to get cleaned separately without potentially falling. I got a quick-load basket and it works fairly well.

This does not require a star
Update: June 2019, Amazon did exchange after. works great. Love that it is the same height as my counter top.
Can only update this to a 4 Star because of the time it took to complete exchange.
