First, make sure you shop around. I got mine from the website of that big chain that starts with W and ends in Mart, $100 less than the best price I could find on Amazon and free shipping to the store. Wow. EDIT: as of this moment I see prices for this on Amazon range from $891 (gulp!) to >>$85<< - but that $85 doesn't include the additional $350 shipping. And this item has several different listings on Amazon. So like I said: shop around!

1. Absolutely true that it is very quiet. The review that you have to be standing right next to it in order to hear it is, in my opinion, a bit of hyperbole, but subjectively about a third the noise created by my old Kenmore (Whirlpool in disguise).

2. Also true that it does not completely dry dishes. Once the unit beeps (more on that in a moment) to tell you it's done, crack the door open so the steam can escape.

3. And yes, it's true that it takes forever to complete a cycle. But here's the thing: it uses very little water (again, about a third as much as the Kenmore) and incidentally, about a third as much detergent; obviously, they have traded water volume for cycle time. Does it really matter that a dishwasher takes longer? I guess if you really needed a full-size dishwasher but couldn't make room for it so you need to turn around several cycles back-to-back in order to wash all of your dishes, that could be a consideration. But if all you really needed in the first place was an 18", who cares if it takes two hours instead of one hour, especially if it is using less water, less detergent, and (according to the Energy Star rating) less electricity?

4. Eight place settings? Of what, dollhouse dishes? Now that one *IS* hyperbole.

There don't seem to be many good portable dishwashers on the market. I wish I could have installed a standard dishwasher where I live. Based on The Sweet Home's recommendation I bought this one.

RELIABILITY: The first one I bought was defective. The repair guy (visit covered by warranty, by a good local company) said it appeared to have been dropped and suggested that I exchange it. That was a pain. The second one works well enough. Out of 25 cycles (in 3 months) it has stopped mid-cycle twice for no apparent reason. The repair guy couldn't reproduce the problem. It has a 1-year warranty so I'm not very concerned.

CLEANING: Perfect. It cleans as well as any mid-to-high end, modern dishwasher I've used. In other words, it cleans much better than any machine made over 10-15 years ago. It has a built in water softener and two extra sprayers (above and below the top rack.)

DRYING: The energy efficient drying mode works well enough for me. I don't mind using a towel on a few slightly damp items. Or, I can open the door in the morning and by the end of the day, everything's completely dry.

SIZE: It's cramped inside but they make decent use of the space with the rack design. I bought a new cutting board and avoid using large mixing bowels now. While shopping I found some portable dishwashers that are as large as a standard dishwasher. But I heard bad things about them and consider the small size of this one to be an acceptable tradeoff.

NOISE: It's louder than a good, modern, installed dishwasher but quieter than others. My kitchen is open and the noise interferes with conversation, TV, or music so I always start it before leaving home or going to bed.

My wife and I both agree that this is the best dishwasher we've ever owned. Both of us have previously used and owned standard full sized built-in washers that do not clean as well as this portable unit. Ours came with all parts and without any damage, so we can't speak to the customer service. But as other reviews have stated it's quiet, super efficient with the detergent, and cleans very well. If you have larger than standard dinner plates you may have trouble fitting bowls in the adjacent row. Other than that the drawers are very well configured.

Excellent appaliance. I can even cut the dishwasher gel packs in half and my dishes still come out clean. Perfect for a mobile home without a dishwasher.

Let me start with this...I LOVE this dishwasher! LOVE IT! This has been a lifesaver!

To the details:
This unit is very easy to set up, rolls very well with little resistance and is very easy to move around the kitchen. It attaches easily to the faucet. Once the washer begins to cycle, it is virtually silent, seriously. I only ever hear it when the water is draining. It does take quite a while to wash a load of dishes, but most dish washers do. The one drawback I've found is that the prongs for the dishes on the lower level seem to be too close together. I have the large, deep bowls which seem to be popular now, and there's really no place you can put them on the lower level. It does take some getting used to in the loading department, because it is so much smaller than a standard dishwasher. But, for my family of four, I typically wash dishes once every two days, so it is possible to get a lot of dishes in this washer. Not only that, but there's a heating unit in the washer and the water is scalding. Dishes come out SPOTLESS every time...even when my husband loads it, and he ALWAYS puts dishes in with food still on it! I've had the washer for about a month now and had no issues. Picked up from the store with a Rav 4 (for this size vehicle, had to fold down the middle seat on one side, but fit easily when I did that), when I took it out of the box, there were no problems whatsoever with the unit. I highly recommend this dishwasher. I've had other dishwashers, full size and smaller size like this, but this is my first portable dishwasher, and without a doubt this has been the best. It is worth every penny.
