The two stars is for the ballroom style dvd because it is slightly easier, but I still found it hard to follow. I think these dvds would be fun for very fit teenage dancers, but not for many ordinary women.
The best thing about these videos is Julianne's fun personality, but that didn't get me dancing.
Now for more detail:
To start, I'll put it out there that Julianne Huff is not the best teacher...she cannot count and she doesn't always give the lead time or forewarning needed to keep up. And both DVDs are not equal...
About my experience - I'm a mediocre dancer. I'd estimate I'm slightly above average but not "good". I danced while a cheerleader in middle and early high school and that was 15 years ago. No other training. I am in relatively good shape and physical fitness, which probably made these easier to keep up with right off the bat than some others will have. But don't get discouraged! You'll get familiar and used to the routines and burn a lot of calories and have fun doing it.
Big tip: Do the personal dance lessons before starting!
First - the Just Dance. I started with this one and felt lost and not crazy about it. So I skipped to the Cardio Ballroom until I got good at that one, then went back to the Just Dance. I found that after getting the hang of the Cardio Ballroom disc, I was better able to keep up with the Just Dance. This DVD is the inferior of the two, in my opinion. It's taught at a faster pace with less repetition to get the hang of the moves before going forward in the routine. The routines are still fun though.
Second - Cardio Ballroom. I love this disc and would enjoy doing it every single day. I feel sexy, I feel a major sweat and out of breath, and I feel powerful (doing the Cha Cha, Jive, and the Paso, respectively). This disc alone is worth the cost of the set. It is fun, and the instruction is far better than the Just Dance disc. Although again, Julianne cannot count. But it's too much fun to care. The Jive is very, very fast paced and by far the biggest cardio of the disc. The cha cha is sexy and fun and the paso makes you feel graceful yet strong.
The disc and instruction are not the best, which is the only reason I gave this a four. But if the rating were on the Cardio Ballroom alone, I'd have given it a 5 star rating.
First, Julianne is a very good instructor. She explains things well and doesn't "over-cue". She seems to love what she's doing and is full of energy, and that really resonates throughout the video.
Next, the moves are challenging enough not to be boring, and are fun as well. Yes, I feel silly since some are a bit on the sexy side and I am certainly no dancer, but hey, it's fun!
The two-disc workout set is a pretty good deal---give it a try!
