One sign of a truly good book is one where you cry tears of sorrow and joy along the journey. As such, this was indeed a good book.
Of course, I didn't want the book to end. And the beauty of this book is that it hasn't ended for me. The love of bees and the changes I've made from reading the book, allow the story to continue. How often does that happen?
It is indeed a wonderful story. And if it were only a wonderful story, it would still be worthy of praise and a five-star review. But the story gave so much more. It left a lasting love of bees on my soul and for that, I'm eternally grateful.
Undoubtedly, Suzi has become one of the few writers who I can seriously say writes extraordinarily lovely and enjoyable books. I am, indeed, smitten, and I'm sworn (to myself) to read all those I've missed as yet. This book is one that is virtually impossible to put down, and I applaud her characters, all of whom bring to us some heartful thoughts.
If you are in the mood for a drama with a happy ending then this is a good book for you. Carr has a unique ability to take a really big tragedy and have the characters work through it in a realistic way, coming out on the other side stronger and better for it.
I loved some of the side stories like that of Marie, Jacky’s business partner, being a bit of a hoarder and Jacky having to deal with that.
I also really enjoyed the research that Carr did on bee keeping. It was interesting getting to know a little more about these funny little honey creators.
