I read this book in less than 24 hours; I simply could not put it down! I began it on a Sunday night, and Monday I got up early to read it before work and just would not take calls or go to work until I finished it. I can't remember finding a book so compelling that I let it get in the way of my highly driven work schedule. I was sad when it came to an end. Emily promises this is the first of a series on topics she mentions in the book. I'm looking forward to reading the others. I found Emily's wisdom and courage to overcome difficult circumstances and ability to be honest about them to be incredibly inspirational.

Cheers to Emily - with this book, she manages to validate and claim the often harrowing past she's written about even while giving it the heave ho. Ultimately, her engaging/wince-inducing story is about granting oneself the power of self-expression and allowing oneself to be the boss. While this is always easier said than done, Emily's evidently done both.

I cannot express how much I loved this book! Emily Pearson takes her life, as horrific, tragic, and unbelievable as you can imagine, and gives us lemonade with puppies and sparkly unicorns.

I can relate to well to Emily's journey away from the LDS Church (Mormon), although I was spared the tragic abuse she suffered. However, I could see myself in her quest to be more obedient, more perfect, more "righteous" by seeking "the mysteries of the Gospel". I too ran across bizarre healers, polygamists, and those seeking to "make their Calling and Election sure." Hey, I figured if I was going to work hard to go to Heaven, I wanted to have all the necessary knowledge and "ordinances".

Emily shares her story in a delightful, self-deprecating manner so we love her, we laugh with her, we totally "get" her and why she does the crazy things she does.

In the moment of clarity, when she comes to realize what she has been doing to herself because of what was done to her, we all rejoice, we all feel lighter, and know that her clarity has some how impacted our clarity about our own life.

You don't have to be a former-Mormon to appreciate her trials and struggles. This could be about any structured organized religion. It is a book about all the magical thinking and suspended disbelief that all of us struggle with.

This is a well written memoir of eventual triumph over tragedy and the journey of a woman who leaned to take responsibility for her own well being despite her circumstances. This book is not a bashing of the Mormon religion. It does entail some of the unfortunate consequences of what I would have to think were well-meaning religious authority figures attempting to guide Emily to follow what they believed to be the way to true eternal salvation. Emily takes responsibility for her choices and details her journey to becoming able to rely on herself to choose what is right for her life. I was surprised to see such honesty and accountability in her account. And for the life of me, I can't believe she seems to have become a well-adjusted adult after the magnitude of despair she has been dealt. Inspirational to say the least. A definite must-read.

I found this book to be completely engaging and well written. Emily found a way to tell her story with humor and at the end I was impressed with the wisdom her journey cultivated. I have met the author and have witnessed her poise and enthusiasm for life...she used all of her negative experiences as a compost pile to plant new seeds of insight and self-actualization. She has woven her journey into prose that captivated my attention. It was hard to put the book down!
The stories are amazing and fascinating and as someone who was raised in the Mormon church, I can confirm how easy it can be to listen to all of the "authoritative voices" instead of that clear one that eventually found its way to consciousness within Emily.

This is a can't-put-it-down fascinating story that brings me to tears then has me laughing out loud. Ms. Pearson has overcome obstacles that could have destroyed her, and she not only has the courage to reveal all to the world, she tells her story in a way that is uplifting and entertaining. She has reached a point where she can stand up and shake her fist at the devil, and along the way has learned to be really cautious whenever someone says god has told him He wants her to do something. Go Emily! I can't wait for your next book.

Be prepared for an emotionally draining read. The moment I picked up the book, I could not put it down. What one person can survive is utterly amazing. And still be sane. So many people experience the outward appearance of having a "put together-normal family", but what is normal? This book shows that "normal" is in the eye of the beholder. You cry for Emily in this book and at times want to scream "GET OUT!", but being a memoir, this is exactly how a lot of us feel while looking back on certain past decisions. The events that occur in Emily's life are really a "Dance With Crazy". How strong someone can be after so much grief in their lives, and still remain positive is a mystery to me.

Be prepared to go on an emotional roller-coaster, but also be truly inspired. This book is a must read, and has been an inspiration to me to make lemonade with the lemons the world gives to me. Phenomenal.
