So I decided to skip the intervening books and read this one, set in the 1920s, next. I'm so glad I did, as I enjoyed this book and will read the nest ones as well. The people were understandable and I was pretty well able to understand how people were connected by referring to the family trees.
The wealth of history you absorb along the was just adds to the enjoyment. Because some of the characters are "at court" you feel like you are there experiencing the events. It gives you a different perspective to see how these events influence everyone's life.
Her writing style is nice and easy. The characters are so well developed that they too seem real.
These are the first books I have ever read and re read.
If you are reading this review to decide if you want to buy a book, any one of them, and you enjoy historical novels I know you will feel about them as I and so many of CHE's fans do. Enjoy
I have a feeling it will be more lows than highs considering it will be the time of the Great Depression

If buying this book it is important to have read the dynasty in sequence as you have to know the family from the previous books. If you forget who the families are it is good there is a family tree which will remind you who is who
