However when I went to put the lanyard on, one of the plastic clamps flew off! I refastened it no problem, but after reading the review about the clamps loosening after just a couple uses, I'm still nervous. May do another test, before I'm comfortable to use with the phone enclosed. Will report back results.
** Update: used in the Carribbean while snorkeling on multiple trips for extended periods of time. Put a piece of paper towel in with the phone as my "early warning system." It worked flawlessly and took AMAZING photos. I even took great pictures through the plastic above the water. I'm a believer.
I tested this case out at the pool initially, with great success. Even on a cloudy day, I took pretty clear pictures and video. The phone works just fine inside the case. While in the pool, I was even able to open Safari and Google "iPhone underwater pictures" when I couldn't take pics or shoot video while under the water. Luckily, I came across some tips, that I'll share here. It seems that once you submerge the iPhone, you can't use it. I'm guessing it has something to do with the water pressure. So here's what I did, to get my underwater video and pics--start shooting ABOVE the water. Start your video above water and then submerge. You can edit out the above water stuff, if you need to.
Pictures are trickier, and the only way I found to take pics under water was to use an app I had installed (QuickPix) that lets me take continuous shots. So I started shooting above water, kept my finger on the button while putting my iPhone under water, and it kept shooting. Next time I'll take my goggles, so I can actually look underwater myself and get better photos, but overall, I'm really pleased with this case.
Check out one of my first underwater videos to see the case in action:
Here are some of the pics. Remember, these were all taken on a cloudy day. :)
I used this case with my iPhone 4S on a recent trip to the bahamas. I used it in the pool, on the waterslide, in the rain and best of all, while snorkeling. It worked great. No leaks or moisture whatsoever, despite swimming for an hour with a few dives down 4+ feet in saltwater. I got some great videos.
The only thing to note, the touch screen doesn't work under water so you can't take under water stills. Start the video camera, then take it under water, bring it back out of the water to turn it off. I don't know if this is unique to the DandyCase. I'm guessing it's not.
It's really easy to put your phone in and take it out. I used it on and off all vacation long.
