Reclusive author Sara Walsh hides from the public for a reason. As a child, she was kidnapped (with her twin sister, Kim) and locked in a root cellar for nine days. Their father, a diplomat, balked at paying the ransom, and Kim died on the eighth day. Twenty-five years later, one of the kidnappers, who remains frustratingly elusive, regularly torments Sara by sending momentos of their time together. Sara is locked in a gilded cage, and the potential key, retired football player Adam Black, may be too explosive for a life lived in shadow, but he is convinced Sara is the answer to his prayers. I'm glad I did!
Ms. Henderson is a popular Christian Romantic Suspense author whose stories are part thriller, part mystery, part romance, and always inspirational. She takes the readers deep inside the minds of the "victim" and/or the lead characters, allowing us to watch them rely on their faith in God to help them through whatever it is they're facing.
Danger in the Shadows is a poignant tale of one woman's life in hiding, running from a deranged man who killed her twin sister when they were just little girls. The memories of that time, the survivors' guilt, and putting her trust in God to see her through is a huge part of the story, along with Sara fighting her growing feelings for Adam, a man who refuses to let her battle her demons alone.
All in all this is a great story! The narrator's voice is rich, deep, and captivating. I'm often thrown off kilter by a male giving voice to a female character. Even though Tom Stechschulte's deep voice did take a bit of time getting used to, I'll definitely be looking for more audio books by this talented narrator, as well as more stories by Dee Henderson.
It has been long enough since I've read the series, that while I had slight memories of the main characters, I'd forgotten enough of the plot to make it as exciting as the first time I read Sara and Adam's story. I really liked how the suspense played out, though it was hard to read what especially Sara had to go through in order to catch the culprit.
I appreciated the reminders that God numbers our days and that we can safely trust in His goodness, no matter the outcome.
I am thankful that I found Dee's books after she had written nearly all. I had to only wait for ONE to be published. I could NOT have imagined waiting for each and every story to be written then published. I had the luxury of reading one after the other and got my sister "hooked" on her too!!!!!!
This author writes.....well, as if these characters are your friends and you can't wait to talk to them.
on the way to hysteria. Adam doesn't know why, but he's intent on helping Sara master her fear. When the power comes back on and the elevator begins to move Adam is more curious than ever. Who is this woman and how can he see her again? The answers to those questions keep Adam involved and determined to protect Sara whether she wants him to or not. This is a highly suspenseful book and you don't know all the answers until the last few pages. Dee Henderson's descriptions major on character. You know each person and their values and motives, rather than just appearance and actions. Her plot is tight and often convoluted. I highly recomend this book. It's outstanding!
