Though not officially in the O'Malley series, this book is Henderson's best. Suspense is high but all things work out well for the main characters in the end. Sadly, what could have been a truly great series, the O'Malley books are severely damaged by Jennifer's sickness and death. That said, this book is as the rest of the series should have been. Read it, and if you like it, read the successive books through #3 "The Truth Seeker." Leave the series there and imagine that through the prayers of the family that Jennifer is healed. It is a much better ending to what follows. The next two books are ok but Jennifer dies in the last one. Sadly, the whole series could have been written much better' something I did for my own satisfaction. Henderson gave me the personal license to do this since the story line of her characters and their work relationships to each other are hardly realistic in real life anyway. That said, a much better ending is to have the newly Christian family lay hands on Jennifer and pray that her cancer be healed. Though not common, I personally know people who have witnessed this miracle and have been healed. Given the fact that the O'Malley family seems to be able to do everything else under their unusual common bond, that ending, though rare, would certainly have fit the reality and fortitude of the O'Malley family as a whole. But Henderson is too enamored by death and destruction to see that possibility. At the end of the day, she kills one of her most beloved characters and leaves her readers in pain and agony. Yea, I get the point that heaven is real, and I believe it like her Christian characters. But in life, I deal with enough death as it is and I definitely don't want to re-experience it in books that I read for pleasure. And since Henderson's basic theological assumptions are way off of the Biblical truths, the pain is even more difficult. I am so glad that I re-wrote the last book the way it should have been written. It is really a nice read. It's too bad that it can't be published.

Dee Henderson does an extaordinary job in this prequel. It is the first book by this author that I have read and I was not disappointed. Sara Walsh is a woman with dark memories and a horrifying past. At the age of six she and her twin sister Kim were held captive by two men for nine excruciating days, after which they were found...but one day late, as only one made it out alive. One of the captors was apprehended, the other is still at large and years later as a grown woman Sara is still looking over her shoulders in fear...and with good reason. The captor sends packages to her father (an ambassador) on each special occasion, to taunt Sara, to remind her that he will come for her. Surrounded by security at all times her life has no privacy. Her brother David is part of the FBI team and part of her security that is dedicated to finding the kidnapper and ending this nightmare. Along the way Sara meets Adam Black a famous football player who is determined to win her heart, while Sara is determined not to get into a relationship. Her life is complicated and dangerous and she has no wish to put this burden on another person no matter how much she loves him. Without giving up the ending I would say that this is an awsome book. I have read some of the reviews for it, one among which there was a complaint that this is a Christian book and it is not labeled as such (though the tags clearly show that it is and the description of the author also makes this clear)... and I would like to say, yes, it is a Christian book, but a wonderful book that will keep you reading to the very end. It shows a journey of a survivor who is riddled with guilt for having survived while her twin sister did not. Also it is full of suspense, and I will say right when you think it's over...well it's not. There is only one reason I am giving it four stars and that is because I thought the begining was a bit slow paced, but it did pick up and I loved it. Great, great, great read!!!

25 years ago Sara Richman was kidnapped along with her twin sister Kim & held for ransom. 9 days later they were found, Sara alive, Kim dead. One of the kidnappers was found & jailed. The other has been stalking Sara ever since. Her older brother Dave has trained as a FBI Special Agent & is lead on her protection detail. A life of anonymity is one Sara has to lead to stay secure. So getting interested in a famous football player is not a good idea.

A chance meeting in a lift that stops because of a power cut, Adam is interested in this beautiful woman with a haunted past. She pushes away hard, but Adam wants to know her & help her through whatever is bothering her. As the enormity of what Sara has to deal with comes to light, Adam is determined to be there for her despite the difficulties. Sara has had to give up so much; he doesn't want her to give up her dream for love.

This audio book version of "Danger in the Shadows" has been abridged fairly well & Matilda Novak is a good narrator - a big plus for me where audio books are concerned! Also there is music in lots of places to give atmosphere; & sound effects - footsteps, dog barking, phone ringing, thunder clapping, to name a few - which help to bring the story alive. Whether you're resting due to ill health, doing household chores or travelling in the car; this fast-paced, faith & action filled audio book is enjoyable to listen to over & over again!

Wow, where do I start? This book was pure entertainment but at the same time I learned so much from it. Sara's situation is horrible and you can see why it gets hard for her to trust God. She's been hiding for 25 years from a stalker who kidnapped her for nine days. Her twin sister was kidnapped along with her and died, a fact that haunts Sara. Her big brother, Dave, is the head of her security team and he too is haunted by the fact that he couldn't protect his little sisters when the kidnapper snatched them (I read this after reading The Negotiator and it was great to read Dave's back story). God literally sends Adam into Sara's life. There's no other way they can possibly meet, it had to be a God thing.

I was unsure about Adam and Sara's relationship. It takes a special man to be able to cope with the things that Adam had to cope with from Sara. But this didn't make the romance unrealistic for me. Rather it reminded me that while there are evil people in this world (like the stalker), there are also uncommonly good people (like Adam). Their love had to overcome all kinds of obstacles and you get the sense that their relationship is either going to be better for it or a total disaster.

This book reminded me that God is dependable even when we don't understand, that God can set us a table in the presence of an enemy (Sara thought she could only fall in love if the stalker was caught, but it happened while she was being stalked), and God is worth our absolute trust.
The most touching part of the story for me was when Sara realised that her relationship with God was based on her need for His protection, and that she had never bothered to get to know Him as more than a refuge.

If you're not sure about this book, I would say give it a chance. It's fantastic. It will keep you on the edge of your seat, but it will also make you smile because Dee Henderson has done a great job of entwining intense suspense with heartwarming romance. I couldn't put it down, and the story will stay with me for a long time.

I’ve read this book about three times and I liked it more each time.
The characters and places came alive as Dee Henderson expertly wove a tale that kept me eagerly turning the pages.
Sara was an incredibly strong woman in the way she dealt with the difficult life she was forced to live by the stalker who also killed her twin sister. As for Dave, her brother, he personified love in the way he looked after Sara as her chief security detail.
It was very easy to like Adam, the man who chose to love Sara unconditionally, and he proved it over and over again in the way he stuck with her through thin and thick.
The massage of God’s love, protection and deliverance can be seen all through the story and at the end of the day, God came through for all of them.
Well done, Dee Henderson, on this great book, and I’ll certainly look forward to reading more books from you.

This isn't normally my typo of book, I would find its theme would give me night meres but this one didn't, its character's were fantastic, and everything was handled so sensitvly that it was just a very good read. I was on the edge with suspense at the end though.

I couldn't put this book down and finished it in one day.

This book is a mix of romance, learning to trust, and letting God deal with past hurts in order to give a future.

Since I read the first christian suspense novel I got recommendations for Dee Henderson's books as the best of this genre. Accordingly high were my expectations starting this first one for me and I got surprised - this is even better. The story is gripping until the last page, the twists surprising even you think everything is clear and nothing new to expect, the most enjoyable part were the characters- the way they got introduced, they developed.
I can recommend this book to everyone looking for great christian suspense.
