What happened before:
· Takes place in future where six cities have been walked off to try and control gang violence
· Dr. Paulson had hundreds of adults and children kidnapped for experiments
· 90% of humans experimented on died before becoming morphate
· Six different types of morphates were made but all (so far) have fangs, claws and drink blood, especially during sex or a fight
· Two morphates escaped and helped free the others and negotiated to take over the "dark cities"
Taking place about 50 years after the Phoenix Project, Devon (Devona in prequel) has finally made a weapon that can kill morphates and be used safely. Needless to say, some people are not happy and have put a price on her head. Devon hires Liam and his company to protect her and her inventions and things heat up.
WARNING: morphates are extremely sexual. I think this has more pages devoted to sexual interaction than Frank's usual books and those are already really hot.
Then at a little over halfway through the book, they have sex. Following this they have more sex than bunnies. To the point that I started viewing Devon as the villain. Liam can no longer do his effectively because he needs more sex. When Liam tells Devon this, her response is to drop to her knees distracting him again.
There was a lot of danger in this book and neither the hero nor heroine can deal with it because they have to have sex. Finally, in the very last chapter, they get it together and vanquish the bad guys in sixteen pages with no plan until that chapter. 3.5 stars for what could have been with an interesting premise.
Maybe I'll just be deeply grateful and hope this continues.
Excellent book. Loved the fact that the big bad was the heroine and not the hero. And that she was a smart one with foresight. Really - one of my favourite characters.
Also really liked the hero. But he was more of the standard issue protector type so not so extraordinary.
Definitely recomend this read. Good times.
